zoom settings when rotating files
hello, we use the viewer at work, version 2.0 build 37.2. the default page zoom is "fit page". it's ok when opening files, but when you rotate the view, it doesn't do an automatic "fit page" (as, for example, Acrobat Reader). each time I have to do this manually. is there a solution?

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
I'm sorry I have to get back on this matter, because it's not working all the time. usually, for pdf's with 1 page, it works (but not always, see attachement). for pdf's with multiple pages, it doesn't work at all. and if I click the "fit page", it doesn't do anything. even if I click on the zoom factor "100%" it still remains the same size. I have to set the zoom factor other than 100%, then click the "fit page". after this procedures, when rotating the views, the automatically "fit pages" works.

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
Hello dansorin,
Both samples you provided were correctly keeping the "Fit Width" zoom when rotated on my XP SP3 machine.
Please make sure it's build 52 you are testing on this machine, tell us which OS you are using (XP, Vista, Win7), and if you can tell - which of the installation files you used, so we can try and locate the problem (if there is one) faster.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
Stefan, thank you for your quick reply.
I'm using build 52 (installed ~1 week ago), I downloaded the exe installer. I'm using XP SP2 (no SP3, on our admins request).
tried once again on the attached files, no go. for the record, the same files handle correctly in Acrobat Reader.

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
Just to clarify - the steps I did:
1)Opened the document (it was opened with 100% zoom as my default setting in Edit -> Preferences -> Page Display is Automatic and not "Fit Width")
2) Made the zoom to "Fit Width"
3) Rotated the page(s) (tried both Rotate View and Document -> Rotate pages)
4) The rotated pages were still with "Fit Width zoom factor
Please confirm that you are doing the same.
And if the problem is that they are not opening with Fit Width initially, please check the Page Display section in the preferences.
Best,
Stefan

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
hello Stefan,
thank you for taking the time to look into this. the steps I did:
1. opened the document (the whole page was displayed, since my setting for Page Display is "fit page", not "fit width").
2. rotate the view: the display kept the same zoom, not doing the automatically "fit page". this is my problem.
3. clicked on the toolbar button "fit page": nothing happened. clicked on the zoom dropdown menu, choosed 100% and nothing happens, the display shows the same size. if I choose now 101% (or something else, but not 100%) the view is displayed correctly, at 101%. now I can click on the button "fit page", everything works from now on.
PS: I just tried this on my home machine (XP SP3), with the attached files, and everything works as it should. I guess something went wrong on the other computer, but what? I'll try to reinstall it.

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
I uninstalled and reinstalled the viewer (cleaned also the registry), but the problem persists.
my settings in the page display category:
- initial view (restore the last used view of documents): unchecked
- default view: automatic
- initial display (restore last used layout and zoom settings): unchecked
- default page layout: single page
- default page zoom: fit page
the security software we use is Trend Micro Worry Free Business. maybe this is somehow interfeering?

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
Hi dansorin,
Yes it is possible that the security software you are using is interfering but it is unlikely as those AV solutions are usually kicking in at application/document launching/opening, and not when trying to perform a task on already opened document.
I will request someone from the dev team to have a look at this and advise but in the mean time can you please test on an XP SP3 machine and see if the problem is present there as well?
Regards,
Stefan

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
hello Stefan,
on my home machine (XP SP3) everything is working out ok (at home I also use F-Secure, not Trend Micro).
more strange things happens:
I noticed that, if I set the "default page layout" to "automatically" or "continuous", then everything is ok. also, if I set the "default page layout" to "single page" AND check the "view page thumbnails", then the zooming is done correctly when I rotate the page. now, if I uncheck the "view page thumbnails" the zooming is not done.
please remember that on A0 pdf sizes everything is ok. all this problems are with A4 pdf sizes. I don't know if this is worth mentioning, I just noticed that in my particular case.
but anyway, thank you for this great piece of software. I hope everything works out in the end.

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
Hello dansorin,
Even when displaying or hiding the bookmarks/thumbnails pane the Viewer should still correctly changing the zoom level of the file so it keeps the "fit width" setting- and so it did for me in my testings.
I tried
1) open a file - set it to fit width - rotate it - display thumbnails pane - rotate again - hide the pages thumbnails
2) open a file - set it to fit width - display thumbnails pane - rotate the view -close thumbnails pane - rotate again
And all the time the file was correctly zoomed in/out when rotating or when closing or opening the thumbnails pane.
Best,
Stefan

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
just for the record, I attached a self explanatory pdf, documenting my problem. I guess there is something wrong, but have no idea what. it looks like having the pages thumbnails view checked, everything is working out ok for me.
thank you for your time and support.

Hello dansorin,
Our developers were also not able to reproduce your case, but they would like to check the settings you have on that machine that is causing the troubles.
Please open the Viewer and use "Edit -> Export all settings to data file..." and send us this file to support@pdf-xchange.com .
Please do NOT post the file here in the forums.
Best,
Stefan

Re: zoom settings when rotating files
We have reproduced the problem.
A fix will be available in the next build (53).
P.S.: you were able to reproduce the problem only on some computers because it is reproducible when the zoom level with "fit-to-page" zoom mode is 100%.
Thanks for your patience.
