EDITING THE TEXT IN A PDF FILE

Post by mcalia »

Just wanted to know if the PDF Viewer Pro can edit text in a pdf file. Also wanted to know if Tracker Software can provide a comparison chart of the functialities offered in the PDF Viewer Pro vs Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro

mcalia,

Unfortunately due to the specifications of the PDF format and the way data is structured on a pdf page it is not possible to realise means to edit the text in a PDF file. For example what seems to you as a single line of text might actually be 10 or even more different objects (for each word), and all of this will still be a perfectly valid and good looking PDF file.

There is a way to “edit” something in a pdf page but this is just a workaround. You can cover a word you do not want and then type above the covered text the new one you want. Of course this cannot shift the text below and might not look as perfect as you want, but PDF format was designed with the idea to be easy to view but unfortunately does not allow ease of edit.

As for the comparison, we have a chart for our own products, but cannot provide a comparison between ours and another company's software.

Hello

We have removed Adobe Acrobat Std and rolled out PDF X-Change Professional 4 to our business, however users are reporting that one of the key features in Acrobat Std was the TouchUp Text Tool to edit text.

Is there a way to do this withing PDF X-Change Professional 4, if there isn't than we will have to re-install Adobe Acrobat Std.

Thanks

As mentioned above, you can work around it by using the text box tool. Use a white fill and 0pt line or white line.

The underlying text will still exist in the PDF file and will be selected when copying text from the document, so it is by no means a substitute for editing PDF files.

Hello Airwolfr,

There are tools (as I have explained in my post last year) that you can use to mimic the touch-up tool you are used to, and in ver3 we are planning to release tools that will allow direct text editing in a manner similar to Adobe.
Ver 3 is expected later this year.

Regards,
Stefan
