copy highlighted text into existing annotations

As a follow up to: show highlighted text in comments pane, for which the option "Preferences > Commenting Options > Copy selected text into Highlight...", seems to do the job, is there any way to copy the highlighted text into *existing* comments that weren't created with this option checked?
