I have experienced the following problems/issues with the PDF-XChange Viewer:
1. Problems in fullscreen mode:
- The continuous view function doesn't work, only page mode is available
- The zoom dialogue box isn't available to resize the window and although Ctrl+ and Ctrl- can be used to zoom the page, there is nothing on the Ctrl+ Ctrl+ menu bar (in non fullscreen mode) to indicate that these are the shortcut keys to use.
- Fullscreen and non-fullscreen modes appear to have independent zoom settings, which can be annoying eg if the zoom is adjusted to make small text readable, then fullscreen is enabled, the page zooms to the page width, and the zoom has to be readjusted. Also, short cut keys to access menu items are generally unavailable.
2. Problems with mouse focus:
- The ALT shortcut key combination doesn't work - keys have to be pressed sequentially rather than together. This is different behaviour to every other windows program I have used!
- Page focus is often lost, preventing navigation keys working - to workaround this issue, the user has to click on the page with the mouse! ie defeating the objective of using the keyboard for navigation. This typically occurs after using off-page functionality, eg pressing CTRL F to enter text in the search field.
- Pressing F1 fails to open the help window.
- When the help window is open, it is "always on top". There is no switch to change this behaviour. This is annoying as clicking on an open pdf doesn't cause it to be "brought to the front", without first (unnecessarily) closing the help window.
3. Often when the host PC is under heavy load, the main menus close before the user has a chance to make the required selection (ie within 2s). This behaviour happens regardless of whether the mouse or shortcut keys are used.
4. Copying text from tables
- Copying and pasting text from Xchange Viewer to MSWord does not produce text that can easily be reformatted into a table - it would be quicker to retype.
5. Feature request for shortcut keys for Navigating between open document tabs:
- Under the View > Go to menu option, could shortcut keys be added for the Previous document and Next document? eg CTRL pageup & CTRL pagedown respectively. This would follow conventions used in the Mozilla Firefox browser.
Currently, it appears that this key combination behaves identically to pageup/pagedown.
6. Feature request for the Callout/Image Tools:
- Would it be possible to add a function to remove all callouts/polygons etc from a pdf without locating them individually?
7. Feature request for the Stamp Tool:
- Would it be possible to add a "Display on all pages" option under the properties for stamps? This would prevent the need to have to repeatedly stamp many pages.
8. Feature request for the Left hand bookmark/page view area:
- Could PDFXViewer remember settings for this area as a user preference? eg if a user has disabled bookmark and/or page views in one document, it is annoying to have to disable them again for every subsequent file that is opened.
9. Feature request for Document properties
- Could the Document properties function include details on which standard was used to create the pdf eg PDF/1A, PDF/1B etc.
Note: This list was originally sent from the Help > Report a Problem dialogue within PDF XChange but as no response has been received after several days, it must have been blocked by internal Spam filters at my end (without any notification).
Also, originally sending the list from the Viewer resulted in an email that, whilst appearing to be attachment free, was blocked by our outgoing virus checker, with the message below, you may wish to amend your email reporting method to prevent this in future:
"A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
pdfxview@tracker-software.com
This message has been rejected because it has a potentially executable attachment originalmail.eml
This form of attachment has been used by recent viruses or other malware. If you meant to send this file then please
package it up as a zip file and resend it."
I assume the forum is the correct method of reporting issues as there doesn't appear to be a bug reporting database.
All issues reported in this email were using the stable latest version (version 2.0 build 37.2).

Re: A list of issues (bugs & feature requests)
Most of these requests are already available in the latest release.
1. Problems in fullscreen mode:
Alter V will show the view menu in fullscreen mode, from where you can select continous view mode (or continuous facing mode, etc.). If you add these icons to a toolbar, you can customize a shortcut. I set Control Page Down for Continuous mode, and Control Page Up to Single page mode. That works in fullscreen mode too.
There are tool tips on the Zoom in/Zoom out icons that indicate one can use Ctrl + Numpad ±
One can also use Control + Scrollwheel
Fullscreen has a default setting of zoom to page, which cannot be changed AFAIK, but shortcuts could be assigned to zoom page width, etc.
2. Problems with mouse focus:
Alter shortcut combination is fixed in the latest release. Check for updates.
Always on top is useful for help windows. They can be minimized instead of being closed.
3. I suspect that this may also be fixed by the latest release.
5. Feature request for shortcut keys for Navigating between open document tabs:
Shortcuts are now customisable, so you can suit yourself.
6. Feature request for the Callout/Image Tools:
You could print to a PDF driver without printing comments and markup. That is a very easy way to strip all markup.

Alter + Letter will pull down menus in fullscreen mode or in Window mode, even if the menu bar is hidden. Also, short cut keys to access menu items are generally unavailable.

Re: A list of issues (bugs & feature requests)
Can somebody tell me how to customize shortcuts.
What I want to do is open several documents and navigate between them.
It is possible navigate between bookmarks clicking into the appropiate one, but can be this feature restricted to next or previous bookmark?
thanks

Hello jqalhe,
Here is how you can create custom shortcuts:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... r-commands
As for the bookmarks - I am afraid no you can not limit them in this way.
Best,
Stefan
