Feature Request - Button for Tabbed documents

Post by RogerFeeley »

I find myself flipping back and forth between 'tiled vertically' and the tabbed view. How about a button that emulates Edit/Preferences/Tabbed Documents. Ideally that would be part of a Window Toolbar that would include the tiling options.

each of the current 'tile...' buttons would automatically turn off tabbed documents. The Tabbed view would turn on tabbed documents.

There is a shortcut to show the thumbnail window with all open documents so I think you can do as you wish already even with the navigation tabs disabled.

Open the customise dialogue by right-clicking on a toolbar, and on the Commands list, scroll down the view category. There is a command: "Show all opened documents thumbnails."

Assign a shortcut to it such as Ctrl Alt F6 and away you go.

Or, you can drag the command to any toolbar, right-click and disable "show text", and you can have the same tile icon that is on the navigation tabs on any toolbar.

I assigned a shortcut key to this command previously. I expected to be able to change the highlighted thumbnail with either the arrow keys or the tab key and then press enter to select that file. The idea being to switch between files with the keyboard only. It seems however that a thumbnail can only be selected with a mouse. Is this by design or am I missing something?

Also, if the navigation tabs are turned off, another screen seems to flash by momentarily before the file I choose (with the mouse) appears. This does not seem to happen with the navigation tabs activated.

If I hold down the “Control-Tab” shortcut key a similar screen pops up, but in this instance I can switch between files by continuing to hold down the Control key and tapping the Tab key.

Thanks.

Another feature that I missed. I wonder how long that's been there? Whether you use the mouse or the keyboard there is an easy way to navigate between open documents.
