Hi,
When documents have "(SECURED)" at the end of the title I can't add bookmarks to them, but I can in Foxit Reader -- I downloaded it just to try that... but I prefer XChange Viewer.
Why can Foxit Reader do it and not this program, is there a way to do it in XChange Viewer?
Thanks

Re: Adding bookmarks to "(SECURED)" documents
Hi mikeggsm,
PDF-XChange will honour any security restrictions put in place by the author. The term SECURED in the file name means that there is some security in place. There are a number of different things that can be secured this way and it is hard for us to say exactly what is happening without seeing the file. Can I ask you to put your file in a zip archive and post it here for us to look at?
sincerely

Re: Adding bookmarks to "(SECURED)" documents
Here is an example: I can't add bookmarks with XChange Viewer but I can with Foxit.
tracker-software.com refused the file I was trying to upload because it's too big (10 MB) but it's the manual for a MIDI keyboard by KORG: http://www.korg.co.uk/downloads/microko ... Manual.pdf
If PDF viewers need to honour any security restrictions put in place by the author "voluntarily" and some PDF viewers choose not to, then that kind of PDF security is only meant as user convenience (e.g. to prevent accidental modification) and not as real security, so shouldn't there be an option to ignore it?
Unrelated note: it would be useful to have a "menu Window -> New Window" feature as in Acrobat Reader, to open multiple tabs of the same file, so you can read and compare several places at the same time.

Re: Adding bookmarks to "(SECURED)" documents
Hi again mikeggsm
thanks for the link. That document is indeed too large to post on the forum. I took a look at it and indeed it does contain restrictions placed by the author.

I don't really want to go into an in depth discussion on what should and should not be supported in terms of security but would simply suggest that we aim to be completely compliant of the ISO standard for PDF documents and honouring author security restrictions is a part of that standard.

If you do into the preferences of the Viewer you can enable "Multiple Instances" and open the same file several time to view side by side.Unrelated note: it would be useful to have a "menu Window -> New Window" feature as in Acrobat Reader, to open multiple tabs of the same file, so you can read and compare several places at the same time.

Re: Adding bookmarks to "(SECURED)" documents
OK thanks.
About menu Window -> New Window, multiple instances duplicate all tabs open in the first instance. I think it would be useful, with "allow multiple instances" unchecked, to have multiple tabs of the same file. Just a remark.
