Darker characters on the Print out

Post by divya63 »

Hello,

We are using PDF Xchange driver 4.0, build 179 in our project for printing reports and viewing.

What we have observed is that the characters present on the print output via pdf-Xchange are a little gray and not as sharp and saturated as we see in our user manuals in .pdf form for the same font type. The font type we are using is Courier New. PFA a snapshot for the same.

Could you please help us achieve darker and more clearer characters not so gray with the same font Courier New may be with some settings or properties.

Many thanks & best regards
Divya Pandey

Hello Divya Pandey,

I am not sure whether you are referring to the way text is rendered inside our Viewer, or how it is printed so I will cover both options below.

If the problem is with the way fonts are rendered - please go to Edit -> Preferences -> Rendering and try to reduce the gamma - this might make the text in documents look darker.

If the problem is at print time, please use our Viewer's Help -> Report a problem feature and let it attach all files, also when sending this report please tell us on which printer are you trying to print this file, and does it print OK from another PDF Viewing program like e.g. Adobe's Reader.

Best,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

Thank you very much for your inputs!

I believe that the problem is because of the way fonts are rendered. So I shall try the setting you have mentioned. However I cannot see the Edit -> Preferences -> Rendering option on Printing Preferences settings dialog.
Am I searching for the settings in the correct place or there is another option.

Please let me know.

Many thanks & bets regards

Hello Divya,

The rendering options I mentioned before were for inside the Viewer, and not for printing.
You are not able to control these for printing.

I could recommend you to try either "print as image", or checking the printer resolution, and toner levels as these could influence the output for thin fonts such as Courier. Can you please try and print the same file to a different printer and compare the results?

Also does printing from e.g. Adobe Acrobat produce the same or different result?

If you can not test all of the above on your own, please tell us the exact printer model, and send us a sample file (to support@pdf-xchange.com if the content is sensitive), so we could do some testing on our side.

Best,
Stefan
