Missing icon
Hi all,
I have Xchange Viewer Version 2.0 Build 54.0 and recently my PDF docments have lost their XChange icon. All PDF files have no icon but the association still works. ie: double clicking on a file with a PDF extension opens XChange.
No other extensions have lost their icon only *.PDF files.
BTW - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PDF-XChangeViewer.1\DefaultIcon is set to:-
"D:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\PDFXCview.exe",1 the correct location of PDFXCview.exe
Can you tell me how to get the icon back?
TIA
Greg

Re: Missing icon
Hello Greg,
When you have run to manual registry editing I believe that you are using either Vista or Win7, and have already tried something like this:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/chang ... and-vista/
If you have not tried the above tips please do but if you have, then please try with a full uninstall and reinstall of our Viewer, as this might prove to be the fastest way to restore the correct icon associations.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Missing icon
Hi ghines
is there anything you can tell us about what is happening between the icons being there and disappearing? For example it this because of a computer restart or is the PC left on overnight?
Do you have any anti-virus software performing scheduled scans over night?
Ultimately we need to be able to reliably reproduce what you are seeing in order to fix it. If you can try to ascertain what triggers the change I'll have one of the dev team take a look at this thread and see if there is anything else they can suggest to do.
cheers

Re: Missing icon
All I can tell you is I uninstall/re-install and the icons re-appear and they stay there all day. At the end of the day I restart the PC and it reboots to the login prompt. I leave it there and go home. Next day I logon and the icons are missing. There's NOD32 Version 4 installed but it's not scheduled for any scans. The only thing that might happen overnight is MS upgrades. Also Acronis will do a backup.is there anything you can tell us about what is happening between the icons being there and disappearing? Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Re: Missing icon
Hi again ghines
no problem, a methodical approach to troubleshooting is always the best even though it can be sometimes laborious. To see if it is indeed the restart causing tis can you do the uninstall/reinstall trick again such that the icons are present, restart then check straight away. This would remove from the equation any unknown actions that might be happening overnight. It should also be reliably reproducible and this is key.

Re: Missing icon
I'm sorry Paul but I cannot spend anymore time on this issue. I've uninstalled PDF Xchange Pro which contained the viewer and installed the free viewer and the problem has gone away.
Thanks for your efforts.

Hi ghines
thanks for getting back to me with this. Did the Viewer installer correctly take up your serial key? You should be able to use it in licensed (Pro) mode still even using the Viewer only installer.

Re: Missing icon
Hi there
newbie here and not english speaking too
so be patient with me.
I have just downloaded the trial for PDFXCPro_x64 and I've installed some hours ago.
After rebooting , (and after uninstalled both Acrobat reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat
I find to have a very similar situation to the 3d beginner.
It seems to be all fine, the program runs, the association with pdf file is ok and the shell to works fine, but as you can see by the scree shot, all the pdf's icon in detailed view are missing.

I'm in Seven ultimate x64 and I've installed your last trial (downloaded some hours ago)
What can I do to fix this problem? It's not an option to buy a program with this bug (at least on my pc).
Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Missing icon
hi bigbear-lio
did you try the tips Stefan suggested in one of the earlier posts?
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/chang ... and-vista/
It should make no difference if you have the free or licensed version they both will work the same way and we will support you the same either way.
Please try the suggestions in the link and let us know if that works for you.
cheers
