Typewriter Tool - cursor bar

Post by Sherry R »

I have version 2.0 Build 42.0 [beta]

I have previously used the typewriter tool quite easily. I click where I want to type, and a little vertical line appears and shows where the first letter will be, and then I type.

Suddenly, one day, instead of the vertical line, I got a small box. I can type in the box and it expands, but I can't place it where I want to type. For instance, if I'm filling out a form and want to type on a line, when I click at the appropriate place, this "typing box" appears a bit lower and to the right. I can't find a way to get it where I want it.

Is there a way to get the vertical line back? I have no idea what changed it. I didn't do anything. It worked one time and was changed the next time!

Thank you for any help.

Hello Sherry R,

You are using a bit outdated build of our Viewer.
Please download and install the latest from here:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... nge-viewer
and you should see this problem solved, as with the latest build the box still appears but the first character when you type it will be exactly where you clicked with the mouse and not shifted in any direction.

Best,
Stefan

Thank you for your reply. I had recently received an update notice and had updated, so that seems surprising. The link you provided took me to a page about PDF-XChange 4 Lite. Is that the one you're referring to?

I tried to do it, but one has to log in first. It automatically came up with a user name and password, but that didn't work. So, I clicked for it to send me my password. I had to supply my e-mail address, and it responds that that address is not registered!!

That's the address I used when I got PRO. In fact, I went back to the confirmation e-mail and copied the registration number, so it has to be the correct e-mail address. I think there was an option to create a new account, so maybe I'll try that.

At this point I'm totally confused. I created a new account, logged in, and it lists that I have PDF-XChange Viewer Version: 2.046 and also PDF-XChange Lite Version: 4.0186 which is listed as having been purchased today. I didn't download anything, though!! It also lists both of these as the most recent version. The version listed on the product itself is the same as I first listed. Is there anything else I can do to get the more recent version you referred to?

Hi Sherry R,

You do not need to login, you said you purchased PDF-XChange 4 PRO, is that correct?

If So you can install the the full PRO suite from this installer:

https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFX4.zip

If you've only purchased the Viewer please install with this installer:

https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXVwer.zip.

This will install the latest version over top of what you currently have installed.
Nothing else is necessary.

If you require further assistance, please do get back to me.

Best regards,
Chris Attrell

Thank you, Chris. Since my last post I received an e-mail with the free serial for the product, so I went back and downloaded it (Lite 4). (I have a Pro version, but I don't think it's version 4, however, I was entitled to get the free Lite 4). During the installation, it asked if I wanted to download and install Viewer, so I said yes. My version now says Build 56.0.

However, as to my original problem, this is worse! I get a lighter "box," but the cursor within it is still not where I want it. And, the white parts of the box seem to be permanent. After I type, the white remains around it, even blotting out the lines of the form I'm typing in.

I still don't understand what happened to the original "line" cursor that I had. I can't figure out what made it disappear.

Update - I was originally informed about this program from Word Perfect Universe (http://www.wpuniverse.com), so I also asked my questions there. Someone suggested the setting for Border Width. It took me a while to find it, and when I did, it was set at 10. The first couple of times I changed it, it went back to 10.

I finally got it set to 0 and now I get a small box, just a little wider than my old "line" and it's placed where I want it. And, I no longer get all of the white space blotting out everything else. So, for now, all is well!

Thank you to those who helped me.

Hello Sherry,

Glad to hear that you resolved your problem,
and as for setting (and making permanent) styles for the tools in our Viewer - have a look at this KB article:

Best,
Stefan
