pdf tab display problem
Hello,
I am experiencing the following problem : whenever I need to restart my pc or accidentally close the Viewer and and then start it up again it does not display the documents which I had open during my previous working session. Is there a way or a setting to have the same pdfs layed out before me each time I use the Viewer ? I usually work with 30 to 50 pdfs open at the same time and it's very inconvenient, to say the least, to go and manually open the files time and time again.
Any help will bw graetly appreciated.
Thanks.

Preferences, General. Restore last session when application starts.

The setting is already enabled , still experiencing the same issue. Don't know what could be causing this.

Are you opening more than one instance of PDF-XChange? Are you closing down properly or just powering off your PC?

Multiple instance is not enabled, I am closing it normally. To no avail.

Re: pdf tab display problem
Try this free utility, which was written by a forum member before the latest releases introduced this feature. It saves any sessions as a text file.

I dowloaded the PDF session saver utility as specified , but when I ran it it said < PDF X-change Viewer not found. PDF session will be closed> And it terminated. I run Vista X86. Am I doing something wrong ?

No idea. I don't get any error, and remember session also works for me. Are you using the portable version? Is PDF-XChange your default viewer?
Try reinstalling PDF-XChange. You shouldn't need the utility, unless you need to save more than one session.

Re: pdf tab display problem
hi lucianmarian,
in addition to Bhikkhu's comment about setting "restore last Session when Application starts" there is
Edit --> Preferences --> Page Display --> Initial View --> Restore the last used view of document (custom layout and visibility of document's panes) when opening.
The settings are saved when you close the Viewer so if it was not closed properly it won't save the state of the documents. It's not clear to me if this is the case for you because it seems you have said both that the Viewer is closing normally and also that this happens

Is this something that you can reproduce? Perhaps if we can reproduce the behaviour we can see what is happening.whenever I need to restart my pc or accidentally close the Viewer and and then start it up again

Re: pdf tab display problem
Short note about PDFsession utility:
It searches for 'PDFXCview.exe' in current directory (useful for portable Viewer - PDFsession.exe should be copied into the same folder as viewer) or via windows registry (Key=HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\PDFviewer\InstallPath)

Re: pdf tab display problem
Hi everyone,
With each passing day I am getting more and more annoyed by the behaviour of my Viewer. Unfortunately, neither your advice, Bihhikhu, nor yours, Paul seem to work in my case. The reinstalling did not do anything in that sense and the setting < Restore the last used view of document > was already enabled, just like < Restore last session when application starts > was. I rarely work with less than 40 documents open at any one time and when, for various reasons, I have to restart/ power off and then back on again my pc, all is lost ; the Viewer either does not display any pdf or it displays just one out of forty. Anybody got any clues ?

Re: pdf tab display problem
Hello lucianmarian,
When you are doing those reboots/power downs, are you closing the Viewer normally before doing so or are you letting windows turn all applications off at e.g. reboot time?
Also have you tried with resetting all settings to default?
Make sure to back up your current ones before trying that!
Other than this, do you have any special applications that might be interfering with our Viewer writing to your registry?
Best,
Stefan

Re: pdf tab display problem
One more suggestion: can you try to use portable version? It does not store settings into registry, so this may help us to locate where problem is...

Thanks.

Re: pdf tab display problem
I have downloaded and installed the portable version, opened a few documents, enabled the corresponding settings ( Restore...etc) , closed it down properly and started it up again but it never displayed the documents from the last session.

Re: pdf tab display problem
Please do following:
1. Run the portable version.
2. Make sure that the checkbox for "Restore last session when application starts" is checked.
3. Open several documents.
4. Close Viewer.
5. Send your settings.dat file to lazycat@tracker-software.com (do not post it on forum because it contain your personal information, including serial).
