XFA problems

Post by gerritvn »

I am using a critical Web based service which requires me to fill in XFA forms. It used to work while I had Adobe reader installed, but after installing PDF-XChange viewer it does not any more with PDF-XChange viewer telling met that XFA is not fully supported. The problem is that PDF-XChange seemed to have permanently disabled the Adobe browser plugin. Even re-installing Adobe does not fix the problem. This happens in both IE9 and FF 3.6.1. Disabling the PDF-XChange viewer plug-in and enabling the Adobe plug-in results in a blank page being displayed when any PDF file is loaded in the browser.

My preferred solution would be to use the version of PDF-XChange viewer with full support of XFA. When will it be available?
Alternatively: how can I fix my system to have Adobe as the browser plugin, but PDF-XChange viewer as my default PDF viewer?

Hello gerritvn,

The next build we are planning for the Viewer (2.5) should be ready by the end of the month and will include full XFA support in it.

Until then you should be able to go to the stand alone Viewer's Edit -> Preferences -> File Associations, and uncheck the "Display PDF in Browser" - then the Adobe Plug-in should kick in and take this association, while the Viewer remains the default application for Viewering stand alone apps - or you could completely revert to Adobe by "Restore File Associations"

Best,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

Thanks for the response and the good news about 2.5.
Your advice did not work for FireFox, but it worked for IE (9Beta). So I have a work-around until end of the month :)

Regards,
Gerrit.

Hi gerritvn,

Appreciated, the behaviour is self evident and we'll get our developers to have a look at it.

Best,
Chris
