Send browser displayed pdf to stand-alone gui

Post by Andrew.Tebeau »

Running Vista 32 on a compaq notebook. Firefox 3.6.13. Pdf Xchange viewer V 2.0 B 56.0.

Site launched my pdf.s in the browser, if I disable addon I lose the ability to open some .pdf. I do not mind this normally. Occasionally, I would like to view them in the stand-alone gui without saving and re-opening. How does one send the pdf displaced in the browser to the Tracker window? I imagine this is ridiculously simple but I am missing the button or command.

Thank you forum for the help.
Thank you Tracker for the amazing piece of software that puts acrobat to shame.

Hi Drew,

have you tried right clicking the link on the web page and selected save/download as an option ?

Or do I misunderstand ?
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Best regards

I want to just move the displayed pdf from the browser to the stand-alone gui. Some docs i don't want to save just move to a different reading place. Furthermore, I have limited memory in Firefox because of my citation manager Zotera. Finally, not only is Zotera a memory hog, but it opens .pdfs in firefox by default and I want to move them to the tabbed gui. In my saved pdfs folder I have 1500 pdfs that I would have to search for when going through my list. They are all filed in Zotera, some exclusively so are just a random string integer that I would have to find then search my directory. There is no way to drag and drop that I am aware of.

I think I found a work around that forces most pdfs to open outside of the browser. But I would still like to be able to open in firefox and occasionally move them into the gui.

Ironically, I found a way to open PDF files in Adobe Reader from the PDF-XChange Browser plugin, but not in PDF-XChange.
  1. Right-click on the browser plugin's toolbar and select customise
  2. On the commands tab of the customise dialogue select the View category
  3. Scroll down to the Launch Toolbar and set a shortcut for it
  4. Show the launch toolbar in the browser plugin
  5. Now you can open any PDF in Adobe Reader

(In Opera) I R-click on the link (assuming that it's a direct link to the PDF), click on Open, the Download dialogue box appears, click on Open, when the PDF has finished downloading PDF-X opens and displays the file.

The file appears in the Downloads panel (it's actually in Opera's Temporary Downloads folder which I've put in Opera's Cache folder) so, if I do want to keep it I R-click on it in the Downloads panel and select Send To...Web Downloads that I've added to the system's context menu.
