Let's assume I purchase a license for "PDF-XChange Viewer". I read the EULA and it seems that the license is granted per user and not per computer.
QUESTION: Does this mean that I can install "PDF-XChange Viewer" on ANY number of computers that I use, provide my serial number (or activate it, etc) and the effect for me is that I can use "PDF-XChange Viewer" as allowed by my license on whatever computer I may happen to be at a given time?
If the answer to the question is NO, then please explain what usage pattern your licensing terms allow for me.
Licensing - Per user or per device?

Re: Licensing - Per user or per device?
Hi,
We allow a license to be installed on a primary desktop and a personal laptop device restricted to a single user - licenses are not concurrent and may be used only by one user - hope thats helps explain a little more clearly.

Re: Licensing - Per user or per device?
I find this licensing restriction retrograde. Please consider raising this complaint within your ranks.
I, a user, demand that software licensed to me, moves around with me on a variety of computing devices and serves me on all of them seamlessly, regardless of where I may be operating from at any given time. Just like a Web application, such as Google Docs, does. Like a service.
This is a complicated request. It will get even more complicated when I'll demand that you synchronize your application's state, especially setting\config changes, across all these devices. For now, the easiest problem for you to solve are these licensing restrictions.
I greatly appreciate your PDF reader. It's stable, feature rich, priced much closer to reality than that ridiculously expensive and restrictive Adobe Acrobat, well designed and reasonably ergonomic. The last point still requires serious work but your good technical design saves the day every time.
Please rethink your licensing terms. There is no place for floppy disk based licensing in the cloud just like there is no place for applications that are not capable to sync their state. Think CR-48.

Re: Licensing - Per user or per device?
Hi,
If you wish to have a 'mobile' application - then use the option for the portable version which allows you to then keep on a USB stick etc for convenience - but either way - a permanent install is only allowed on a single Desktop + 1 Laptop and I regret this is not going to change in the near future irrespective of yours or any other 'demands', this is not a 'cloud' application and was never intended to be - thats why we have offered the portable option if the traditional install is not convenient for your needs.
See our downloads page for the portable version :

Re: Licensing - Per user or per device?
Think more relaxed about my request. I like your product. I don't demand a cloud app. I demand a Windows app that behaves a lot like a cloud app. Big difference. You'll see what I mean when you'll see the next Win ver but I hope my previous post was also pretty clear.
I wasn't aware of the portable version. Thanks for the tip. I'll try it in combination with Dropbox and see if it fits the bill.

Your comments are appreciated - but our policies are clear and will not change I am afraid.

Re: Licensing - Per user or per device?
It would be great if it were two computers and a laptop (I have a home and work computer). I guess I can buy another licence, or not install to my laptop.

Hi Tim,
Yes - you will either need a separate license for e.g. your work computer or not install on the laptop.
Regards,
Stefan
