As I already mentioned for PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188.0, and same goes for 2.5.189.0: it's completely unusable on Linux (at least on Debian Squeeze, 64bit, wine 1.0.1 /stable/ and 1.1.32 /unstable/), since scrolling down messes displayed page completely (dragging it with mouse makes things even worse). I know there is no official support for Linux, but I hope someone might provide any info useful for making the app work again with wine. I guess some big changes are made regarding the way PDF-XChange Viewer dispays the content. Any ideas? Hope I wouldn't have to stick with 2.057 all next three years

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188/9.0 display issue on Linux
HI meho_r
fear not, the issue is not restricted to Linux/Wine. In a Windows environment this can be recreated by switching to Full screen, zooming with CTRL++ and then scrolling. We have a work item to investigate this and I am hopeful that the resulting fix also fixes PDF-XChange Viewer under wine because that's how I use it at home...

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188/9.0 display issue on Linux
no worries meho_r
just so you know the issue with the rendering has been identified and the fix will be available in the next build. At that time I'll check things in Wine as well.

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188/9.0 display issue on Linux
Hello meho_r,
I just tested and build 190 is working correctly in full screen on windows and I thought the issue with Linux and build 189 was related.
Please ensure that you have a fresh copy of the Viewer under Wine, so that all .dlls and the exe are updated correctly, and lets hope this will fix the problem for you.
Best,
Stefan

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188/9.0 display issue on Linux
I even removed my ~/.wine folder and installed a fresh copy of the Viewer. The issue is persistent. Scrolling and dragging result in what is seen in the picture below. I'll try to build wine 1.3.9 to see how the Viewer behaves with that version.
EDIT: Same applies to wine 1.3.9 on Debian Squeeze, 64bit.

HI meho_r
thanks for the screen shot. We will create a Linux environment and test this, probably Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. What distro are you using?
I did notice that Ububtu are pushinbg their 32 bit desktop over the 64 bit, probably to make compatibilty with browser addins and other end user apps simpler. This may affect wine. Are you using a 32 or 64 bit distro?

Hi again meho_r
we saw the same behaviour using wine on Ubuntu 100.04 x64. We know what is the cause of this and are implementing a fix, hopefully for the next build.

Hi and thanks for the info, Paul. I'm glad to hear that we can expect a fix soon. I'm using Debian Squeeze, 64-bit.

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188/9.0 display issue on Linux
Well, in 2.5.191 things are looking a little bit better. There are still blocks of text disappearing (especially when "continuous" mode is active), but at least not at every single mouse scroll. Also, no more lines over the display when scrolling, and dragging with mouse seems to be working fine. Unfortunately, the disappearance of text still occurs far to often for the Viewer to be usable for reading longer texts.

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188/9.0 display issue on Linux
Hi meho_r,
to be honest, I had not noticed the missing text. I do now, in fact it does not seem to be limited to text, I'm getting it in images also. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and if I scroll using my mouse wheel I get these occasionally. Using the scroll bar doesn't seem to cause the issue, whether grabbing the scroll bar, clicking the scroll bar arrows or clicking the blank scroll bar (page scrolling).
Can you confirm if this is the behaviour you are seeing?
I know we specifically addressed the lines that were appearing but this appears to have been missed. That's my fault, I never added that to the ticket - sorry.

Actually, it happens no matter which method I use, but with mouse scroll it happens more often than using the scroll bar arrows or dragging.

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188/9.0 display issue on Linux
@ Ivan, sorry for such a late reply. Since 2.5.194.0 is out, here's a video file showing the issue in this version. Same happens with 2.5.193.0, as well as with earlier versions that came after 2.0.57 (which works fine).

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.188/9.0 display issue on Linux
(repeating the post from https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... 868#p47868)
I had the same problem with pdf xchange viewer free 2.5 portable on wine/ubuntu 10.10.
The solution I've found works really well.
Make sure you've got the default settings for the application, and after that you just go to:
Edit -> Preferences -> Performance and make sure you have checked the checkbox "Use synchronous mode of page rendering".
After checking that option pdf xchange viewer runs smoothly as it does on windows.
HTH,
sfabriz

Great find. Scrolling is still the same, i.e., pretty bumpy, but at least content stays displayed. Thanks a lot, sfabriz.

I was desperately trying to make it work under ubuntu, 'cause I'm addicted to this software!
No pdf editor for linux is comparable.
