Booklet Printing: Gutter and Margins

Post by Bhikkhu Pesala »

My source document is set up with 0.5" margins, and the PDF is the same.

When choosing the Booklet printing option for a book, the default setting is to add a 0.5" gutter. Why?

I can reduce the gutter to zero, but the booklet printing mode always adds margins of what looks like 0.25" and there is no option to change the margins.

In the booklet (printed to PDF Factory), the Margins are about 0.72" instead of the desired 0.5" and the gutter is slightly over the expected 1".

The attached PNG image is exported from the PDF booklet at 100 dpi. The gutter is 104 pixels and the margins are 72 pixels.
The other attached PNG image shows the print dialogue settings that I used.

Thanks. That was it. I didn't realise that I could change the margins on the PDF Factory printer driver.

There is still a problem though if I want to print to my laser printer. Its margins of 0.2" cannot be changed, so the page is scaled down and the margins are increased although there is no need to. To print a booklet I will need to print first to a PDF driver, then print from that PDF to the laser printer.

Of course, I can print directly to my laser printer from PagePlus without these extra steps, but anyone who wants to print a PDF as a booklet from the PDF files on my web site will run into this problem, unless they have a printer capable of borderless printing.

Please consider an option not the scale the printout when printing as a booklet.

Hi Bhikkhu,

We'll try to add some options in print dialogue to avoid this issue in future. I'm not sure when but it's on the radar.
