I have some PDF files that, when opened with PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5, display a dialog. One such file is the owner's manual for my car. Each and every time I open this file (which is often), I have to dismiss a dialog that says "While we try to verify the integrity of this information, blah blah, we reserve the right to be wrong, blah blah, we're not perfect, blah blah, your car may be destroyed by our mistakes and it's too bad, blah blah."
This is annoying.
I see no option to disable these comments/warnings/whatever you call them.
When I open the same PDF in other viewers (including Adobe Reader), the dialog doesn't appear at all.
Message/comment on PDF opening--can it be disabled?

HI Unregistered,
can you send us the file in question? Be sure to zip it up so the forum software doesn't remove the attachment.

Re: Message/comment on PDF opening--can it be disabled?
Thank you for the reply. The PDF is too large to attach (~12 MB), and doesn't compress. I've uploaded it to a couple web hosts. Same file, two servers, in case one is unavailable or some other thing:
http://www.filedropper.com/sonata
http://www.mediafire.com/file/q25418na8 ... sonata.zip
I apologize if these servers blast you with ads or popups or something. I use software that blocks all that garbage. If there is a problem, I can email the file or upload it to my own server. I would have done that except I don't want to post the URL publicly.

Thanks for that Unregistered,
I have the file and I see what you mean.
This behaviour is scripted through JavaScript. Any PDF viewer that supports JavaScript should display this, Adobe Reader included, it does on my system. You might want to disable JavaScript in the Viewer if it's too annoying.

Hi Unregisterd,
you were not online when I went to edit my post. This particular issue is not going to be changed in V3 like I had stated. Sorry for any confusion.

OK thanks. I'm at a loss. Adobe doesn't display this ridiculous dialog, but I did have JavaScript enabled in it. Maybe it was some stupid security setting. God forbid I use my computer for 5 minutes without aggravation. Anyway, thanks again.

Is there a way to edit PDFs like this and remove the script, or otherwise disable the message from appearing (without disabling JavaScript in the viewer)?

Hello Unregistered,
I am afraid that disabling JS is the only way, as this is a JS inside the file.
A simple solution could be to "reprint" this manual through our printing Driver - this should discard the annoying JS
There might be some tools that will allow you to do some low level manipulations with this PDF file but I am not aware of any such readily available, and they might also break other functionality
Best,
Stefan

Re: Message/comment on PDF opening--can it be disabled?
I may have worked around the issue. I opened the PDF in a hex editor, and replaced each of two instances of "/JavaScript" with "/0avaScript". It now opens fine, with no stupid dialog.
I am not advising this as a general practice and no one needs to play Daddy and tell me this isn't something to do carelessly.
Thank you very much for the replies.

Hi Unregistered.
I'm glad you found a solution that works for you. I am certainly not inyerested in telling you what to do. It is refreshing to see someonbe take responsability for their own actions in this time we live in.
