secure document -how to alter ?
Hi;
I have a document that I have secured. I would like to edit some text in this document. I can put in my password (which is accepted) , but I don't see how to go about changing the document after it is "unlocked".
My settings in the Security section of the document properties is password protected in the security method.
In the document permission details, Printing is High Resolution is allowing printing in high resolution, and all else is Not Allowed, including Changing Document, etc.
(I was hoping to add the setting page image, but haven't figured out how to add it !)
Thanks, Pam

Re: secure document -how to alter ?
Hi John, thanks for the reply. My document is very large, over 400 pages...a bit big to send along ?...(also, it includes personal info that shouldn't go out to the assembled masses...)
...what next ?
Thanks again, Pam

Re: secure document -how to alter ?
Hi Pam,
I suspect the document allows you to view by use of your password - but perhaps altering has been set to prohibited, one way or another to be able to advise we either need to see the document (preferable) or at least get a screenshot of the documents security settings - you can see these by selecting the CTRK Key + 'D'
You can email to support provided its not over 20MB or so - support@pdf-xchange.com
Without this I am afraid we are at an 'impasse'

Re: secure document -how to alter ?
Hi John, I apologize not getting to you sooner...I wrote yesterday, but i guess I didn't send it properly...
My document is 85.6 Mb, so it looks as if it's not going anywhere.. I 'll send along the attachment of the security settings I have for the document
I hope I've added it to this, and that I get it sent off to you this time !

Hi Pam,
its as suspected - the doc allows viewing and printing only - unless you have the 'owner' password.

Re: secure document -how to alter ?
Hello John, I do have the password, but when I enter it, nothing happens. The security feature accepts it, but then I get no change in directions, or the option of changing the document...is there Another password that I didn't "register", or am I missing something ?
Once more, with thanks, Pam

Re: secure document -how to alter ?
Hello Pam,
A PDF file could have two passwords, and neither of the two is mandatory, so it could have just one of them, the other or none
The first password is required to open the file - it is required for anyone trying to open a file - including the creator.
The second one is the "owner" password - this is the one needed to be able to change the permissions of a document.
If you have this correct password in our Viewer Open the File in question, then go to Main Menu -> File -> Document Properties (or press Ctrl + D).
In the newly opened window on the left click "Security" - and the right side will change.
Click the "Change Settings..." button. If there is a password needed to change the permissions of this document - you would be prompted to enter it:

Best,
Stefan

Re: secure document -how to alter ?
Hell Stefan,
I get to the page as illustrated by in your letter, add my password, which is accepted, and then on to the following page, which I OK, but then when I go into the document, I don't have the option of changing text, etc.
Am I missing something on that 2nd page ?

Hi PamET,
have you seen this article yet: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... dits-to-it
does that clear up what you are doing?

Re: secure document -how to alter ?
hi Paul, and Stefan,
I've gone through the knowledge-base article, and I think I see my error... (?)
In the article, in page 5, it shows the security settings as password protected, and, in the document permission details, it shows all allowed. I'd been thinking they were relating to the reader, not the writer, but was I taking it incorrectly, that is are the permissions for the password changes ?
On the other page of password security settings, where i put my password, I had checked "require a password to change permissions for the document"...my password is in that option.
In the lower section Printing Allowed- High resolution
and changing allowed -not allowed
I do have the document saved without the password security, so I can start again to secure it, but, if I have my druthers, I would rather make my changes in the secure document.
I don't want to secure another one, and not be able to get at it !
Thanks again, Pam

Re: secure document -how to alter ?
Hi PamET,
I think the easiest way to make changes to your secure document is to set the security method back to "No Security", save it locally then make the changes. Once you are finished your changes simply set a password again.
Alternatively keep an unsecured copy, change as needed and Save As then secure the copy.
