I sugest that the Delete Pages dialog box will have Selected Pages highlighted by default when there are selected pages, and Current Page when there are no selected pages. For Pages to work, the pages numbers need to be typed in, which causes Pages to become highlighted. Therefore, changing the default shouldn't affect existing functionality.
Another related issue is that when multiple documents are open, Selected Pages is greyed right after selecting pages. I becomes available once focus goes to the document panel (as oposed to the thumbnail panel).
I realize that the problems I describe below may have to do with Wine; I haven't checked what happens outside of Wine, but I mention it here in case it's a more general problem. I do quite a bit of page shuffling, so having extra keystrokes in these commands affect usability for me quite a bit. I've found that dragging and dropping page thumbnails works great, and actually largely eliminates my need for the Extract Page command. However, the issues for Delete Page seem very similar to the issues for Extract Page, so I mention it too. But, for me this boils down to figuring out how to most easily delete pages.
I think I may be missing something here, because it seems to me that I should be able to select pages by their thumbnails, and simply hit delete to delete them. But that does nothing.
I also see a Delete selected pages command in the toolbar configuration dialog, and it does work if I put it into the standard toolbar, but I can't seem to run that command with a shortcut key when I assign one. Also, if I put it into the Menu bar, it crashes PDFX.

Re: Delete and Extract pages
HI plasticassius,
I'm havingg trouble using many keyboard shortcuts in my Ubuntu 10.10 Virtual Machine. I'm not sure if this is specific to it being wine, a VM, or a combination of both. I can't even open the thumbnail pane with CTRL_T let alone select multiple pages in it...
I can try this at home tonight where I use Ubuntu 10.10 as my workstation, assuming my kids give me 5 minutes to myself.
Are there other keybiard short cut issues you are seeing or just the delete key? Selecting multiple pages and hitting the delete key does delete the pages in Windows...
Regards the extract pages dialogue, there are a lot of changes coming for V3 and I suggest we wait for that and see what it looks like then revisit this then.
Do let me know if the keyboard sj=hortcuts are more broad reaching on your real Ubuntu box though please.
regards

Re: Delete and Extract pages
Hi Paul,
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with Wine 1.2.2 as opposed to a VM. And, I think you're right that there are other shortcut key issues. The ones I've noticed are that I can't use delete for thumbnails, although I can open the panel with control t and select multiple pages. I can delete the selected thumbnails with Delete Selected Pages, but I can't assign any shortcut key at all to Delete Selected Pages, although I can modify shortcut keys assigned to other commands. Also, Insert doesn't work to create bookmarks.
I assume it's safe to say that as I work with it more, I'll come up with other examples.
Thanks,

OK plasticassius,
do keep me informed and we'll take a look and see if there is anything we can do at this end.

Re: Delete and Extract pages
Ok,
as I work with this, I realize this problem isn't so bad. I guess I'd like for the Delete Selected Pages to work on a hot key, but clicking on it with the mouse is ok. Actually, it occurred to me that what I'd really like is for the drag and drop between files to do a move instead of a copy. I tried holding the shift key while moving which doesn't seem to do it; is it supposed to?
Thanks for the help.
