Firefox shows white PDF sites

Post by Spookyman »

Hi,

iam using the PDFXChangeViewer version 2.5 (build 194.0) and the latest 4.X Firefox. I have the problem that all PDF's are not appearing i can see only a white site. If it helps, if java is blocked, i can see the PDF sign on the site.

My OS is Windows XP SP3 latest patches 32bit. The system was complete new installt 7 days ago.

Maybe someone can tell me where the problem is. Downloading is not the problem on the white site, if i make rightclick on the white site and then site save under..., the PDF is saved.

That is written about the plugin into "pluginreg.dat" it is only the part from your PDF plugin. Eventually you can see the prob there???
The plugin exists in the Firefoxplugin folder.

Hello Spookyman,

Please perform the next few steps and everything should be file.

1) completely uninstall our Viewer
2) Restart your PC
3) Ensure that there are no files left after the uninstallation
4) Download this latest build: www.tracker-software.com/PDFXVwer.zip
5) Ensure that all browsers are stopped on your machine.
6) During install make sure to select: "Display PDF in Browser" and complete the installation

Now the Viewer plug-in should be correctly associated with FireFox and display your files correctly.

Best,
Stefan

Hello Spookyman,

Do you have such problem with any other browser installed on your computer (Internet Explorer for example).

Hi here am i again,

ok what did i do?
i uninstalled PDFXChangeViewer again with revouninstaller
Then i uninstalled Firefox with revouninstaller
Then restart PC.
The rest deleted.
Then i install Firefox, after this i install PDFXChangeViewer. I go Online and try first with IE, all fine.
Then Opera, all fine.
Then Firefox naked without any add on (maybe it is a add on i tought) result..... white site.

Ok i looked into the installpath from Firefox there i see the pluginfolder, in the pluginfolder is the PDFXChangeViewer plugin. Hmmmmm.
Then i copied the pluginfolder into the new profile i made and try again. Now it works

At least i roll back my Backup with all the Add ons and my loved links and copied the pluginfolder complete into my old profile and ... hohohoooooooo it works. 8)
After all this try and error work, and at least found the solution, maybe you give me a lifetime key for PDFXChangeViewer pro ???   I deserved it.

Hey Spookeyman,

thanks for that. :-) If I understand you correctly the fix is to copy the plugin from the PDF-XChange Viewer install directory to the Firefox plugin directory? Sounds like the old days in linux (but that it would ne a simlink...)

That is indeed good to know.
Best regards

Hi Paul - Tracker Supp,
copy the plugin from the PDF-XChange Viewer install directory to the Firefox plugin directory?
No, cause the plugin IS in the Firefox plugin directory. But there it dont work if you had a profile like me or maybe others. Look the pic maybe it explain better cause my english is not really good.

This one show the install directory of Firefox there you see under "my name Firefox" (this is my profile i changed only the name for this pic) the pluginfolder. There is the PDFXCV plugin inside.
Image

Here you see the profilefolder, there was no pluginfolder, so PDFXCV dont works. The pluginfolder you see here, is copied from the install directory you see on first pic. After copying this pluginfolder, PDFXCV works fine.

Hope that explain it better what i have done. :)
And the Lifetime Key for PDFXCV pro? :)

Hello Spookyman,

I just spoke with Corwin, and he said that he will investigate this behaviour a bit later as in our testings so far we didn't notice such problems.

Can you please tell us the sequence of installations you did and when did you make your profile, and at which point you noticed that the plug-in is not correctly opening your PDF files.

e.g. here is how I see it happened:
1) Installed FF4
2) Installed our Viewer and selected "Display PDF in Browser" - with the default profile in FF PDFs were opened correctly.
3) Created a new profile in FF4, which didn't have the plug in installed.

Thanks,
Stefan

and at which point you noticed that the plug-in is not correctly opening your PDF files.

Hello Tracker Supp-Stefan,

sure i can. :)
Can you please tell us the sequence of installations you did and when did you make your profile,
after uninstall and the rest, i began in this sequence:
Install Firefox. Then create a folder (like the 1 in the pic 1 post earlier.) in installpath of Firefox (for my new profile).
For creating a new profile you have to open the Profile Manager
Righclick on firefoxicon on the desktop, then properties, then target (where is written the installpath) i made a empty field and then -p
so it looks (by me) then: "D:\Internet\Browser\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p then save and start FF with this changed icon. There appears then the profile manager, i create the new profile and give him a name and the path to the earlier created folder in the installpath of FF.

Now i install PDFXCV. Ready.
From this moment it dosen't work in browser. Tested
After copying the plugin folder into my new created profile it works. Tested
and at which point you noticed that the plug-in is not correctly opening your PDF files.
after updating to FF4, some hours later i was on a site to read a pdf (i readed before with the older version of FF without problems).
But now this site shows me only a white site. So i tried another site and then another but all show me white sites so i noticed that there is a problem. Only 1 thing i am not sure, if i had updated PDFXCV too or not.

That works only if FF and PDFXCV will be installed new. I tried today on my Notebook with Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit to copy the existing pluginfolder into my profile folder, there i deleted the "pluginreg.dat" (will be created new after start FF) but it dosent work, there i see white sites too. After uninstall FF and PDFXCV described earlier here it works fine.
All i can say, in FF earlier versions it works without copying the pluginfolder. There it works fine.

Yeah rest is written here. :) Hope it helps you.

Thanks Spookyman,

I discussed this topic once again with Corwin (Sasha) and he said that he needs some more time for investigation, and hopes to be able to post some further findings on the topic later today.

Hello Spookyman,

I spoke with Corwin once again, and after running all the tests he could, and following your description precisely we are still unable to reproduce the problem and it keeps working correctly for us :(

Sasha said that in all his tests "Firefox is getting the Viewer plug-in from the viewer installation directory or the FF install directory (not necessarily a FF profile directory) and is working fine"

If you managed to isolate some other steps that are causing you to experience this problem please do not hesitate to share them with us and we will test again, but at this time we are sorry but are stopping the investigation on the case, as you are the only one to have reported this and we are unable to reproduce it despite our best efforts.

Best,
Stefan
