Send by E-Mail => E-Mail title

Post by loopy »

Hello,

testing this great piece of software and having one question. When I send a pdf document by E-Mail (File=>Send by E-Mail=>Send by E-Mail) the generated E-Mail title is something like
=?utf-8?B?QXVmdHJhZ3NiZXN0w6R0aWd1bmcgenUgS3VuZGVubnVtbWVyIDIwMDc0ICgzKQ==?= =?utf-8?B?LnBkZg==?=
Is there a possibility to change the title to a fixed value before the E-Mail is generated?

Thanks :D

Hello loopy,

Can you please check the version of our Viewer you are using (in Help -> About) and if it is not 2.5.194 please download and install the latest build:
www.tracker-software.com/PDFXVwer.zip

And if you already have this build please let us know which is your mail client.

Best,
Stefan

Hi loopy,

does this always happen when you use send by email or is it specific to certain files only?

When we tested this here it works OK. The subject uses the name of the attached file. Is the string
=?utf-8?B?QXVmdHJhZ3NiZXN0w6R0aWd1bmcgenUgS3VuZGVubnVtbWVyIDIwMDc0ICgzKQ==?= =?utf-8?B?LnBkZg==?=
related to the file name?

If that's not related can I ask you to use the VIewer built in error reporting Help --> Report a problem and include the offered attachments and also a link to this forum thread in the body of th email. With that information I can test the same environment as you have.

Hi,

I think I was not specific enough. Sorry about that :oops:

Here's what I do:
I open the email and attached there is a pdf-file with a name e.g. "Order conformation 5648393". When I doubleclick the pdf-attachment your software "PDF-XChange Viewer" comes up and opens the pdf-file. I add some informations with the typewriter tool, afterwards I send the document to my mail client with "File=>Send by E-Mail...=>Send by Email..."

Then Outlook comes up an generates a subject like
=?utf-8?B?QXVmdHJhZ3NiZXN0w6R0aWd1bmcgenUgS3VuZGVubnVtbWVyIDIwMDc0ICg1KQ==?=
This has nothing to do with the title of the pdf-document. The attached pdf-document has still its original name and this is fine. I tested this with two more XP-clients and all show this behaviour.

So my question is:
Is there a possibility to change the subject of the generated e-mail to a specific title, e.g. "Your order confirmation".
I will report this problem with the built in error reporting system as you suggested.

EDIT:
And a nice feature request would be to give the generated E-Mail a predefined body-text. I would buy the pro-license because for only this feature.

Again, thank you very much :wink:

Hi loopy,

thanks for that. The reason I asked about that string and the file name is that the thing you want to do should be already what is happening, unless I have my wires crossed or otherwise misunderstand...

If the PDF file name is "Order conformation 5648393" then "File=>Send by E-Mail...=>Send by Email..." from within the Viewer should compose an email with "Order conformation 5648393" in the subject.

I have found your report email and will see if I can reproduce your issue.

Hi again loopy,

I have to consult my dev team over this. It appears that this is dependent on the filename. I tried using your file and one of ours with very different results:

Your file:

Our file:
Image

As you can see the file name is being used as the subject in one case and not the other. I hope to have an answer for you very soon.

Hi again loopy,

on further investigation I find that even using Thunderbird your file name is not being used correctly. It is related to the way UTF8 characters is handled.

We will investigate this and let you know what we find. The ticket for this item is RT#980: Send by E-Mail => E-Mail title. Tis is for internal use only however. We will post here what we find.

Hi loopy,

the team have indicated that they have found the cause of this and implemented a fix. The fix will be available in the next build.
