PDF-Xchange Viewer for iPad ever ?

Post by BryceM »

I am desperate for the functionality of XChange Viewer in an iPad app. I use my iPad for my lecture note taking and the lecture handouts are in PDF - it would be soooo nice to have the text box and typewriter facility from Xchange. Is there any plan for even a cut down iPad app ?

Hello BryceM,

For the moment we are busy developing ver3 of our Viewer that will bring even more functionality, but once it is released (and the stress on the dev team is less extreme) we will certainly have a look at some alternate platforms, but for now our products are only available for the Dekstop versions of Windows.

Best,
Stefan

Frankly, developing an App "somewhen" will put you in great disadvantage. By then others have taken over. iAnnotate for iPads is already strong. Also consider an Android version. The main purpose for most students, pupils or professionals is going paperless with the tablet PCs. There is a strong need for a good annotation program (such as yours).
Cheers

Many companies make the mistake of diluting their resources and trying to be all things to all people - for now we are fully committed in terms of resources to satisfying the demand for Windows users - I assure you were it possible for us to commit staff to Apple and Android platforms we undoubtedly would - provided it did not compromise our core client base on the Windows platform.

Once we have completed the rewrite of all our products now in progress and beginning with the rollout of our Version 5 drivers shortly - we will look at alternative platforms as we will be able to commit staff to the project without compromising our existing commitments to Windows users.

As always we appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Hi John,

Interesting that someone else has commented and mentioned iAnnotate. That is actually the App I use and it now has the "typewriter" functionality I was looking for - The latest update basically makes it 95% of what I need now, if Tracker offered an iPad version I would be hesitant to swap simply because I know iAnnotate now. PDF-Exchange is my preferred choice on Windows but I do think you have missed the boat on an integrated the Windows / iPad solution (using Dropbox or similar). There are many people in further education who are using iPads and the integration between desktop and tablet is key.

Whilst I understand what you say about resource dilution I do think there is also a case for taking on the competition. As it is, Tracker would be a latecomer to a crowded market in which there are already some good offerings - iAnnotate, Upad etc.

Hi Bryce,

thanks for your comments and there is no doubt much in what you say - but the core issue for us is not whether we compete or not on other platforms (which I agree 100% would be desireable) - but when we choose to do so - and that I am afraid will have to wait until we are in a position to divert resources to do so.

If we could employ additonal staff to do so that had the relevant knowledge/experience - we would do so - but despite our best efforts we have found expanding our development team sufficiently a real challenge - good people are just not that easy to find.

Rest assured - as soon as we can look at this - we will :)

Hi Dear dev team:
First thing first, thank you all very much for making such a great app. I fall in love with it as soon as i started using it. I'm using an Android tablet and is in desprate need of a great PDF editing software (such as yours). But so far have been fruitless. And that have brought me to your forume.
It has been a year since this post was updated. I just want to ask if there's any news on making an app (especially android *wink*) for us tablet users?.

Thank you

Ray

Hi Ray,

No tablet versions are currently in development, but once the new Windows version is released by the end of this month - we will be looking at this possibility again.

Stefan
