wanting to completely dump Adobe

I am sure this question has come up before, but after a short search I did not find anything so here goes.

I am wanting to completely dump the Adobe version off of my computer systems however we have some custom written programs provided to us by manufacturers we represent that are hard coded to look for Acrobat reader. Has anyone written a bypass script or is there a registry hack that can be performed so that we do not have to have that "other" software installed?

thanks for the question. I put your question to one of our experts and he has not heard of anyone doing such a thing to date. He also suggested that it might be difficult to do this in a way that would work in all cases.

Have you discussed this with the people who created the programs? Perhaps they could change that so that there is a choice? A call to the default PDF Viewer for example. I think this would be a much cleaner solution.

Well maybe if these custom written programs are so simply coded to look for Ad*be Reader, they might also be dumb enough to be fooled if you just rename "PDFXCview.exe" to "AcroRd32.exe"...

Hi Paul, yes I have been round and round
This answer will either make you laugh or cry....

"It is not likely there will be an alternate to Adobe, as it is a universally recognized add-in for many software packages and the internet"

The followup phone call was just, well,,, let just say this guy showed me how clueless he actually is. Basically he told me Adobe Acrobat IS the standard for PDF and there is nothing else available.

I had actually thought about doing this but have not had a chance to try it....

... maybe ask him if he has heard of the internet yet?
