Unable to change page background color

Post by petomiro »

Hi,

I had the Viewer version from Dec 2010, then just upgraded to the newest. My problem persists.

In short, I am unable to change the Page Background color under Edit --> Preferences --> Accessibility.

No matter which color I choose, or which combination of selections on that Accessibility page, the change is always ignored.

Is this a known issue or is there a specific way to make this work?

Thanks.

(Windows 7, PDF-XChange Viewer, Ver 2.5, Build 195.0)

Hello petomiro,

Is this only happening with one file or with any you try?
As it is possible that the file you have is a scanned image of a page, and the "background" you see is actually a while section of an image, so our Viewer is changing the colour below, but you just can't see it.

If the document is not confidential, please consider uploading it here so that we can check it out for you.

Best,
Stefan

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

It is happening with any I try. It does not seem to be linked to the PDF file. It seems to be linked to the software (configuration, etc).

The pages that I'm working with are not scanned images. XChange Viewer knows the lines are text and highlighting of text is possible (which doesn't work in a scanned image).

When I say that the background color is not changing, yes, it is not changing in the document, but it also is not changing in the Preferences area either. There is a place there to see the chosen color and that never changes. The software is responding as if changing the background color is not possible, except that option is not grayed out (unavailable). It is available, but just doesn't work.

Although it is happening seemingly on any file, I have attached the one that I was working with.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the sample and the detailed description petomiro.

You are correct - the file is not the problem.
It appears that there is something wrong on your machine, as it worked on mine with your sample, and I have not heard of this problem before.

Please try to reset all settings in our Viewer to their defaults (make sure to save a copy of your current ones with "Edit -> Export all settings to Data File..." first), and check whether you will be able to change the accessibility settings after that.

Also ensure that your Win7 Account has sufficient privileges to make changes to the registry.

If neither of the above helps - please try reinstalling the Viewer by first performing a complete uninstall, restart and then install the Viewer anew.

Best,
Stefan
