win 7 64 bit, FF4, pdf-xchange viewer pro version 2.
I am unable to open the pdf browser OUTSIDE of FF and when I open it inside of firefox, I can't use the zoom command, I can't go to different pages, and many other facilities simply do not work. It is almost as if it is frozen.
I'm not sure when this happened. It either happened when I went from the free to the pro version, or when I went to FF4. They both happened quite close to each other.
I'm prety disturbed because I have uninstalled adobe and was very happy - now, for reasons I can't find, I can't use it.
I tried restoring to defaults but that didn't work either.
Please help.
Thanks.
Louise

Re: Can't open outside of browser and can't use most command
Hello Louise,
I would recommend you to do a complete uninstall of our Viewer and then restart the PC.
Once it is back on, download this installation file:
www.tracker-software.com/PDFXVwer.zip ,
Ensure that FF is stopped, and then install the latest build of our Viewer with the file above, and make sure to select that all file association options are checked, and everything should be fine.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Can't open outside of browser and can't use most command
Hi,
Thanks for your help but it only fixed part of the problem.
I now can use the editing, selecting, typing tools within the pdf software. However, I still cannot open pdf links from FF 4 on a full screen. PDF-Xchange viewer still opens within a tab in FF - in other words, under the FF toolbars etc.
When installing I did uncheck the box that said to open in browser - but it didn't listen
Is there something else I might try?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Can't open outside of browser and can't use most command
Hi Louise,
Run the Viewer and go to Edit->Preferences->File Associations and uncheck the Display in Browser, click Apply and OK.
If the check box is already unchecked, check the box Deisplay in Browser, click Apply and OK
Close the Viewer, reopen it, and go to Edit->Preferences->File Associations and uncheck the Display in Browser, click Apply and OK.
That will correct the entry in the Windows Registry and should wokrk as expected.
Best,
Chris

Re: Can't open outside of browser and can't use most command
It was unchecked. I checked it and exited the program. Then I went back in and unchecked it. Exited the program.
Brought up something in FF that provides a pdf and sadly.......it still came up under the browser toolbar.
I am comfortable editing the registry. If this is a registry issue, could you tell me what should be edited in the registry and how it should read? I will do it and hopefully.....it will solve the problem.
Thanks.

Re: Can't open outside of browser and can't use most command
Hi Louise,
We'll test this issue further with the new FF4 in the office tomorrow as I only have FF3 on my machine.
In FF4 in the Tools and Addins (plugins) section there should be a section you can review hoe FF4 handles PDF files and you can change options to have FF4 disable using the Viewer within the broswer.
If there is a conflict with our viewer and FF4 we will work to get that addressed.
With the Viewer disabled within FF4 it should open a PDF using the default program for handling PDF files as per Windows and launch the actual program.
Please let me know if this is successful and if not we will address it with our development team tomorrow.
Best,
Chris

Re: Can't open outside of browser and can't use most command
GOT IT!
In Options/Applications, it reads Adobe etc. and then says use pdf-xchangeviewer (in firefox)
I changed it to use pdfx-change viewer (default).
Now it is opening outside the browser. Thanks for sending me on the hunt and sticking with me while we figured this out because opening in the browser just takes too much real estate.
