transparent/white background in pdfs imported from scanner
Hi, whenever I scan in documents (file > new document > from image file > import) and save them as .pdf, xchange viewer somehow tries to remove the black areas surrounding the document. the result looks not really nice, and what is particularly disturbing is that it makes the text really hard to read because some letters now have white dots ... is there any way to disable this "feature"?
thanks in advance,
patrik

Hello Patric,
Would it be possible to please provide us with a sample so we get a better understanding of what is happening at your end. I f possible please do provide both a scanned page (as image) and then as the resulting PDF that you got after using our Viewer and we should then be able to advise better what and why is happening.
Also please make sure to archive the samples as otherwise high dpi images could be quite big.
Best,
Stefan

see attachment. i created the pdf using pdfxchangeviewer; the image is directly from my scanning software (i did not find a way to directly access the image file used by pdfxchangeviewer to generate the pdf).

Hi Patric,
And thanks for the samples.
It appears like your scanner is trying to remove the black borders from your image. It's certainly not something that our Viewer does with the image, so it's most probably done in the scanner drivers before passing the image to us. Please try to check the scanner settings and check for any optimization or border removal options that could be affecting this.
Best,
Stefan

thanks for you reply. what is weird, then, is that when i double-click such an image in the "new document from images" interface in xchangeviewer (or click "edit"), the image looks perfectly fine. only when i click "ok" and xchangeviewer creates the pdf do the black areas get removed. can that still not be related to the viewer?

Hi,
could it be the page dimensions you have set under the 'options' at the bottom are 'trimming' the image ?

If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

sorry for the late reply, i haven't used the function in question lately. the problem still exists and is essentially making it impossible for me to scan in anythingJohn - Tracker Supp wrote:Hi,

Re: transparent/white background in pdfs imported from scann
Hi pjz,
it looks to me like you have used a black/white setting on your scan that is using a threshold to determine what should be black and what should not. I created a PDF using our Viewer created from the sample image you supplied and as you can see it did convert the file closely to the image. (See attached file New Document.zip)
Are you certain that you used the same scanner settings for both the image scan and the PDF generated? The most likely difference would be using grayscale VS black & white I would think.
If you are certain that the same settings were used, and from your description I suspect this to be the case, then we are going to have to dig a little deeper.
Do let me know.

Hi Paul,
thanks for your reply. Yes, I double-checked that. As you see here http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/22742936 ... e?h=71e1d4 this is also in accordance with what the Viewer receives from the scanner/scanning software.
Cheers,

HI pjz,
good news, the team have identified what the issue is here and have implemented a fix that will be available in the next build. This looks like being V3 for this issue and should be available in a few weeks.
