Issue with printing with PDF-viewer
I am using PDF-Viewer V2.5 Build 195 and trying to print a PDF created through Autocad Architecture 2011 with PDF XChange Lite. I have tried to use 2 different Xchange Lite versions (3.60Lite Build 124 and 4.0Lite Build 195).
From what I have determined is that the Viewer is creating a large print file. The original PDF files created with the XChange Lite are 1.3Mb (3-12x18 drawings combined into 1) and when I send them to print they end up 153Mb in my print queue and I have a 50/50 chance of them printing and when they do print it takes over 10 minutes. I was able to send the same files created with Xchange Lite with Adobe Acrobat and do not have a problem. The file in the queue is under 6Mb when I send them this way.
The file is 3 - 12x18 site plans with colors combined into 1 file and I am trying to print them at 12x18 to my Konica-Minolta BizHub C351. Since I am new to the PDF-Viewer I was wondering if there is a solution to this? I have used the XChange lite print drivers for over 5 years without any problems. I purchased the PDF-Viewer to replace my Acrobat. I have always wanted the ability to customize the output scale and not have the program dictate the size of my output.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I can attach the files if needed.

Re: Issue with printing with PDF-viewer
HI williams and frehsee,
can you tell me if you have "Print as Images" enabled in the PDF-XChange Print Dialogue? If so try printing it with this turned off.
Also, next to that is an "Advanced" button, there is an option "Print Text as Curves" - can you check that this is set to "Auto"?

I don't see those functions on the XChange Lite versions I have. I think I will download the full version and run my tests again both with and without the settings you suggested. I will respond after I have done this.

Re: Issue with printing with PDF-viewer
Hi,
these are not part of PDF-XChange 4 Lite, they are found in the PDF-XChange Viewer Print Dialogue. This is the window that pops open whern you try to print a PDF document from the Viewer.
That is what I understood your description as being, the PDF file created by PDF-XChange 4 Lite is small but when printing it from PDF-XChange Viewer it becomes large on the print queue.
Do I have that right?

Re: Issue with printing with PDF-viewer
Sorry,
I thought I looked in the Viewer for settings but didn't see them so I assumed it was the print driver.
I checked the settings you mentioned and the print to image was turned off and I changed the advanced setting to Auto.
I tried to print with the print as image setting turned on and the spool size was reduced from 150 Mb to 50Mb. It still takes a long time (15-20 minutes) to process but it is printing every time.
I wonder if the issue is more in the information that is being printed. I am unsure of how the drivers process the Autocad drawing but the file with an issue has Autodesk Civil proxy information in an Autodesk Architecture file. So, I have a site plan with 2D and 3D elements, some are Architecture and some are Civil. I tried flattening and also exporting to a native AutoCad file but the spool size is still 150Mb or 50Mb depending on how I print with the Viewer.
I tried to optimize the file using PDF Tools and the output stayed the same. Sorry if this message jumps around. I was testing other options mentioned while I was writing the response.

- The PDF file that you are trying to print from PDF-XChange Viewer
- the make, model and driver version number of printer you are printing to.
- The version of Windows (7, XP etc) and it's architecture (32 or 64 bit OS?)

Re: Issue with printing with PDF-viewer
Thank you for your time and attention to my query. I have attached the file in question. There were other test files that I achieved the same results so am only including the original.
I am running XP Professional 32 bit and printing to a Konica/Minolta BizHub C351 printer/copier. The Driver is Konica/Minolta C351 PCL Version 03.01.00.00
Currently I send the file from my PC through the network and it goes to the printer/copier that is connected to my network switch I can see the spooled file on a Windows 2000 print server.
As a Test, I just tried to send the file to my HP DesignJet 500 and the spooled file was 23 Mb. It started printing without delay. I ran into a separate issue with the print margins but that is not part of this problem. Is there a way to change the default print margins of a printer in the PDF Viewer?

Re: Issue with printing with PDF-viewer
I just finished a separate project and created a 38 page PDF and noticed that my printer is getting hung up on site plans similar to the ones I sent. 5 of the sheets in the set are site plans and every time the printer gets to this it stalls for a few minutes. All the other sheets are building plans and elevations print without delay.

Re: Issue with printing with PDF-viewer
Hi again williams and frehsee,
I was unable to reproduce the ballooning file on the print queue using my printer here. Between this and your success printing to another printer it does look like this is specific to the Konica using PCL. We are currently working on a new version of the Viewer and a part of that project is addressing the way it prints to both PCL and PS printers. I have passed your issue on to our development team to incorporate into this. Unfortunately the fix for this may not be in the initial release of V3 but it will be in a subsequent one I expect.
The ticket relating to this (internal only) is RT#1064: PCL printing to Konica
If you have drivers other than the PCL ones for that Konica I recommend you try using those instead as I believe it will improve speed significantly.

Re: Issue with printing with PDF-viewer
Thanks - I have the option to use PCL, PS or Virtual PS drivers. I will see if I can run both drivers. I will also see if there is a difference using the PS driver.

Hi,
I'm not sure that I would expect much difference using the PS drivers but if you have native drivers by Konica/Minolta that would be your best shot.
