Printing PDF from Indesign CS2 using PDF X Change Pro

Post by wpalacz »

Hello,
I recently tried to export PDF from Indesign CS2 but via PDF X Change Pro printer driver. It went just fine. But after checking PDF in X Change Viewer I noticed, that there is no way how to highlight some of the text (some of the text can be highlighted). It's like the driver exported a half of the file to the image. The quality of PDF is very low.
And the second problem. Document in Indesign is A5. The exported PDF is A4 with centered text in A5 size. After changing the format of exported PDF, scales etc. the problem still occurs.
Maybe it's the problem with old version of Indesign. Any ideas?

Hi wpalacz,

I think the issue with not being able to select text from the PDF is because of the way your job is being sent to the PDF-XChange Printer. If the text/font information is available to the driver it will use it, if however that info is not sent as a part of the job then we cannot create that info.

Sometimes there are issues with InDesign using fonts that do not work well with the Windows GDI system that is used for print jobs and we can do nothing about that I am afraid for now.

I hope that helps explain ...

Feel free to zip archive the PDF and attach and we would be happy to take a look and advise definitively ...
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Hi.
It seems that this happens only with the font I'm currently working with (ZapfCalligrPL). I attached PDF with a sample text in two different fonts - ZapfCalligr and Times New Roman. Times works just fine, but ZapfCalligr is not even a font in the created PDF. Please look at this text in a zoom. It's like a driver attached Times to the PDF, but not the ZapfCalligr. However I tried to export PDF via PDFCreator 1.2.1, and it attached ZapfCalligr correctly. Unfortunatelly ZapfCalligr is the font I'm used to working with, so this makes some problems. How to make PDF X Change Pro Driver to attach this font to a file?
Oh by the way: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (Polish), Indesign CS2 (Polish), PDF X Change Pro 4.
Thanks for your help.

Sure, no problem. In attachment. However I'm not sure if Indesign attaches the font to the file. ZapfCalligr is not a built-in font in Windows, unfortunately.
Thanks.

Can you send us ZapfCalligr font?

I guess it is a Type 1 (PostScript) font and in the case of non-Postscript printers, InDesign (and other Adobe's products too) will rasterize the text when sending the print job to the printer....

Hence the issue you are experiencing I suspect.

Hello wpalacz,

I did speak with Ivan a few minutes ago, and he did confirm that as the font is a Type 1 we can not do anything in this case I am afraid.

Sorry for bringing the bad news!
