I can't be 100% sure but it seems like, since I've used PDFXchange, I have not needed the Adobe plugin for FF to read pdfs on webpages.
In fact I had set an option somewhere that made pdfs open in the Viewer instead of having to read them in FF. But something has happened, and now when I run across a pdf on a webpage my browser stops and says I need to install the Adobe plugin.
How do I get things set back to the way they were, ie 1) not needing Adobe and 2) having pdfs on webpages open in the viewer and not on the webpage?
Thanks...
Firefox now asking for Adobe plugin to read pdfs on webpages

Re: Firefox now asking for Adobe plugin to read pdfs on webp
Hello auser,
Please have a look at these two KB articles:
How do I set PDF XChange Viewer as the default method for displaying on line PDF documents in Mozilla Firefox
I have a problem with opening pdf files directly inside a tab in Firefox. They open in the stand alone Viewer.
Which should let you know how to set up our plug-in as the default in FF, or if you want to keep opening files in the stand alone Viewer - the screen-shots in the second KB article should still help.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Firefox now asking for Adobe plugin to read pdfs on webp
It's weird. I think I have all of that is done, but there is a page where FF seems to insist on 2 things. 1) that the pdf open with Adobe, and 2) that it open within the browser. But I don't think it used to be this way so I'm trying to get it fixed to be the way it was.
Unfortunately the page requires a password or I would link to it. Any ideas?
(If you know of another page with a pdf doc as part of the page, I'll go there and check the behavior and let you know what it does.)

Do you see the same behaviour in internet explorer?

Re: Firefox now asking for Adobe plugin to read pdfs on webp
When I went to the page with IE, the pdf opens within the browser and it must use Adobe because pdfxchange isn't shown in the list of IE's addons.
Thank you for your help.
Edit: I think the correct way to describe the pdf on the webpage I'm having trouble with is to say that it's embedded on the page. After uninstalling and combing hrough the registry deleting every reference I could find to Tracker products and pdfxchange viewer, it is working better.
here's what happens:
(for all tests FF application options for all pdf filetypes are set to use pdfxchange)
testing on pdf embedded on webpage
PDFXCviewer - edit - preferences - file associations- check Display in Browser
FF Adobe plugin disable
Result: usually gets the pdfxchange gray background only, but if I refresh enough times it sometimes will show the pdf using pdfxchange.
PDFXCviewer - edit - preferences - file associations- check Display in Browser
FF Adobe plugin ENabled
Result: same as above
PDFXCviewer - edit - preferences - file associations- UNcheck Display in Browser
FF Adobe plugin DISabled
Result: error on screen saying plugin is disabled
PDFXCviewer - edit - preferences - file associations- UNcheck Display in Browser
FF Adobe plugin ENabled
Result: displays embedded using Adobe plugin
Thank you for your help.

Re: Firefox now asking for Adobe plugin to read pdfs on webp
Hello auser,
Here is a page with embedded PDFs:
http://www.planetpdf.com/mainpage.asp?webpageid=1682
Which appears fine on my end - yes the toolbars in our Viewer might get a bit in the way - but you can still turn those off and have the PDF appears as the author intended.
So probably the specific page you are having problems with is using a different embedding method and that's what's causing the problem.
As a workaround solution I would recommend you to try and download the file, and then open it locally if possible.
Best,
Stefan

That page work fine. Maybe it is something about they way they embedded the one I'm having trouble with. They must love Adobe to make their site insist on it. Thanks for your help.

Hi auser,
it's so very hard to say without seeing what is going on. If you ever come across a public example do let us know.
