PDF plugin crashes Opera

1. install Opera and PDF X-Change plugin ( https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product/downloads )
2. open PDF file
3. start printing from Opera's UI : Opera menu -> Print -> OK
...Opera would show "printing page 1" dialog and then the plugins's printing dialog would appear
4. Keep pressing Cancel in plugins's printing dialog

Obviously either You or Opera Software is wrong about NP API implementation intrinsics

On their part the bug was reported with e-mail id DSK-342567 AT bugs.opera.com. (e-mail modified as per Bhikkhu's request).

Hello Arioch,

Using Opera version 11.50 and build 197 of our products - I did 20 tests - and was not able to crash anything.

We will need some more information about your OS as well, and hopefully a screenshot which is the cancel button you can keep pressing - as all the cancel buttons I saw here on my end were only clickable once - and then they woudl either become inactive or cancel the whole printing process and close all related windows (but leave opera open).

It's the plugin's printing dialog (same as stand=alone PDF XChange printing dialog, but it was in Englosh for plugin while in Russian for stand-alone),
it popped up two times, then it freezed for about half minute, then it popped up two times more.
Each time i pressed Cancel in it's bottom right corner.
after 4th cancel it crashed

another box has Win7 x64 and Samsugn 4500w printing device

When i pressed ^P in Opera - it just printed the empty page, it did not engage plugin's printing dialog not priting routines...

weird.

Hello Arioch,

Maybe the Samsung printer is set as the default - and the settings in Opera are also set in such a way that Ctrl + P send the job straight to the default printer and does not prompt you to select one.

As for the initial problem - please try to provide a more detailed description as we are unable to make the test machines on our end to crash.

Also crashes on Windows XP Home SP3. Default printer is a PDF Factory printer driver.

Must use Print from Opera's menu to get the crash, not from the plugin's menu or print command, which works fine.

For me, PDF-XChange print dialogue appears then immediately vanishes behind Opera. On task switching back to the dialogue, and pressing cancel, Opera crashes.

Took me 10-15 more tries but I managed to make it crash for me as well.
Will speak with the devs now and create a ticket for this case.

Prints OK from Opera using the Foxit Reader plugin for Mozilla.

Using the Adobe Reader 9.3.4 plugin, no crash, but just a blank "plugin content" page.

Hi All,

I managed to reproduce the problem much easier when I did follow Arioch's instructions exactly. With a PDF file opened I managed to crash opera on the very first try.

Before that I was testing with attempting to print a simple HTML page - so I guess the job was done too fast and I was slow at clicking the cancel button.

In any case I have documented all my tests in a ticket:
#1160: Printing from opera to our printing drivers makes them non responsive
So that our dev guys could check this out and search for the reason and hopefully a solution to this problem.

We will keep you updated as always!

I guess i explained it badly.

Opera did shown me its "select printer and printing options" dialog.
And after OK it printed an empty page.

On the 1st box however the sequence was
1) Opera's "select printer and printing options" dialog -> OK
2) Opera's "printing page #1 / Cancel " status window - do nothign
3) PDF Plugin's "select printer and printing options" -> Cancel
4) repeat step 3 again and again, until it crashes

I thought that the problem would be reproduced with printing anything from opera to our printers - and so it turns out to be - but it's much easier with a PDF file opened.

As for the ticket itselef - as I did it late on Friday afternoon, the guys haven't yet had the time to look at it - but we will update as soon as there are any news.

hmm, miscommunication maybe

i just posted about printing, meaning "any printer" and in the 2nd post specified "HP LaseJet 1005w " and then "Samsugn 4500w printing device" - but maybe i'd better posted in in 1st post already

What about those Your Printers, i guess printing of PDf file to PDF creator should open some short circuit to just copy PDF content as is, rather than re-creating it. Personally i just can't imagine why would i print PDF file onto PDF-creating printer. However there might be a sense. There was a girl, who printed 50 empty pages - just to avoid counting the sheets manually

And still, virtual printers are not browser plugins as subject reads.

In other words - it is not related to the issue i reported ?

Hence - those seem to be two unrelated bugs, one of mine, and another that u randomly stumbled upon, during attempts to track my bug - different and unrelated bug, isn't it ?

Yes - those might be two unrelated bugs.

As for the original problem that you reported - our developers advised that you should be using the File -> Print option inside the Viewer plug-in and not the default print button in Opera and everything should work fine and without crashes.

Oh, the workaround i figured out quite ago, even before posting here

I just think, it would make sense for you to issue one more bug-report, for the bug discovered by yours.
Since it is most probably unrelated to one of mine, it may be just lost when they fix my bug.

Actually the ticket content is pretty much "Check this forum topic and advise" - so the guys are aware of both, and I did say in the ticket that I managed to reproduce your problem when printing a PDF file - so the answer from the devs is in reply to exactly your problem. So please do try the "File -> Print" inside the Viewer control and everything should be fine.

The guys from our dev team just notified me that the problem described in ticket 1160 is now resolved, and that the fix will be available in the next build of our products.
