temporary snapshot

It would be really nice to have a command to take a temporary snapshot of a page and to be able to display it on top of the page one is reading at the moment while pressing the space bar, for instance. This would reproduce the gesture of keeping our fingers in a book page marking it for back and forth flipping while one is reading through a paragraph which makes references to data on the page.

I constantly have to get back to a table or graph or anything like it while reading and using last viewed is clumsy, as is typing the number of the page. It isn't only worse than scrolling back and forth. Taking a snapshot and just taping some key to display it on top of what is being read would be great.

If there is already something of the kind, I would be grateful to be informed of it.

thanks for the suggestion. We don't have a snapshot to do exactly what you say but there are 3 things you could do that may give you what you want.

1. Use the Snapshot Tool
Using the Snapshot Tool as it is now you could make an image of the current page then either look at the image in a graphics app while you use the PDF to move through the document.

2. Extract the page to a new document. (Requires a license)
Using the Extract Pages feature you could make a second document with just the page you wish to refer to and open this and your main document is separate tabs

3. Enable Multiple Instances of the Viewer
By enabling Multiple Instances of the Viewer (Edit --> Preferences --> General --> Application --> Allow Multiple Instances) you could open the same document twice, once on your single page that you would 'snapshot' and another instance that you navigate through.

Does that give you what you want?

The first two suggestions are a little awkward. The third one is nice; I didn't notice this feature. Yet, since I usually keep 3 or 4 docs open and I use a touch screen netbook to read, the space for extra tabs is reduced and using the pull down menu is difficult.

Is there a way to toggle between only two documents, back and forth, using some shortcut?

you can use CTRL+Tab to switch between open documents in the same instance of the Viewer whether tabs or separate windows or Alt+Tab to switch between instances if you go that route.

Another method that I use is the Loupe Tool (Tools menu, Zoom Tools, Loupe Tool). Drag it to display the object you want to keep in view using the Loupe Tool. Resize the loup window and zoom to suit your needs without obscuring the page too much.

Then switch to the hand tool and scroll down through the document using the usual commands or the scroll bar.
