usep and state of recent files
Hello,
I'm working with a lot of documents and usually encounter more than 50 files opened. This makes pdf-xchange slow on startup. Since all opened documents can be distinctly grouped, I've tried to use /usep command line option to split sets of recently used documents. But alas, viewer do not restore state of opened files on startup when /usep switch is used. Are there any workaround for this? (and yes, I've triple checked that 'Restore Last Session' check box is on).

This is a third-party tool, so not officially endorsed by Tracker, but take a look at PDF Session

Thanks, but this pretty basic tool and have no ability to store file names which are opened during session. The same functionality could be achieved via simple batch file.

Re: usep and state of recent files
Hello borisxm,
I am afraid that the /usep command line ignores the list of recent files, as if you are importing these parameters on another machine - it's more than likely that the files and paths will not be present and exactly matching those on your old one.
So I would recommend you to use either a batch file, or the tool Bhikkhu recommended - as once you have set those batches up, and named them accordingly you should not need the individual file names inside, or maybe I didn't understand you why the file names are that important?
Best,
Stefan

Re: usep and state of recent files
Yep, I'm should elaborate more: the list of opened documents aren't constant - some are closed and deleted, new documents are opened, and any document may have a chance to stay in the list for a long time. That's why the use of the above mentioned utility and/or batch files isn't practical.Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote:Hello borisxm,

This can be explained in the terms of text editors which support projects. One can open any number of instances of the editor provided none of the projecta are opened twice. And inside of the each project one can edit an arbitrary (even intersected) set of files.
You're correct, that /usep might be the wrong place to store the list. Then, it could be different switch like /sess filename, another menu item like 'Open project' with the list of recent projects or something like that. But, as I understand, this can not be done with current version of PDFViewer Pro.

Re: usep and state of recent files
Hello borisxm,
Seems like you need multiple sessions, and a way to control those.
I am afraid that the Viewer doesn't offer such a functionality, and we have chosen the compromise solution of a single session.
So if you add files to your current one, and then remove others, and then close the Viewer - this will save the new state as your session and on consecutive Viewer reopen it will restore your session from it's last state.
Now I see you say you need to work with more than 50 files - but I doubt how practical it is to have that much files opened and navigate through at any given time. More likely the files you need are in sets much smaller than 50, so allow me to offer an alternative solution: you could have those files grouped in folders - and you then simply drag and drop all files from the folder over our Viewer - and it will load your sets. Without the need to work with sessions or recent files lists (which recent files list you can extend through the settings to remember even e.g. 200 files).
The above is of course just a temporary workaround, and for ver3 of our Viewer we are planning a "Collections" plug-in which should do a job similar to what you require.
Best,
Stefan

Re: usep and state of recent files
It is very easy to come very close to this number when doing research work. Most documents are four to twenty pages long, some reports are even shorter and one have to keep all them open because there are many cross references and it is much more simple to group tabs together and switch between files with one click or through 'Windows' menu.Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote: Now I see you say you need to work with more than 50 files - but I doubt how practical it is to have that much files opened and navigate through at any given time.
Correct, individual, per-group sets are much smaller, but files stored one per folder by the bibliography system and this can not be changed.Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote: More likely the files you need are in sets much smaller than 50, so allow me to offer an alternative solution: you could have those files grouped in folders - and you then simply drag and drop all files from the folder over our Viewer - and it will load your sets.
That would be pretty nice indeed.Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote: The above is of course just a temporary workaround, and for ver3 of our Viewer we are planning a "Collections" plug-in which should do a job similar to what you require.
Thanks for your help.

Hi borisxm
I had a thought about this:
V3 is not far away now and the custom collections will be right up you alley I suspect.

If you cannot collect the files themselves in folders can you collect a folder of shortcuts?but files stored one per folder by the bibliography system and this can not be changed.

Yes, that could be an option. For now, I can't figure out how to get a list of currently opened files.Paul - Tracker Supp wrote: If you cannot collect the files themselves in folders can you collect a folder of shortcuts?
Good, will wait patiently.Paul - Tracker Supp wrote: V3 is not far away now and the custom collections will be right up you alley I suspect.

I've been able to do that by making copies of the executable and binary modifying each copy in order to make each executable use a different registry key. Not an easy task but worth the effort. Now I can run multiple instances each one remembering their opened files.

Hi, WorldAparts
Welcome to the forums.
You have posted in a very old thread with something that seems unrelated. I am just wondering if there is anything here I can help yo with?
