Hi,
I would like to ask a question on PDF XChange-Viewer.
There are some operation properties:
1. Default color of Underline tool
2. Default color of Highlight tool
3. Default background of Text tool
which I found cannot be saved after program exits, and are always revered to original values (on my machine green for (1), yellow for (2), “no color” for (3)).
Since I need to open and edit many PDF documents, changing these properties for each of them upon opening takes time. Could anyone tell me how could this be permanent set? Is there any registry setting that controls these?
Bob

Re: Can’t save modified editing tool properties
From the Comments menu, show the Comments Style Palette. Edit the text, highlight, and underline properties there and they should stick — they do for me.

I just tried. They work only for the current session; after I exit PDF X-Change and restart, all settings reverted back.

Re: Can’t save modified editing tool properties
Hi bob_sun,
Are you using the option allow multiple instances of the Viewer and have more than one document open when attempting to set the default style for the annotations.
I successfully changed the default comment styles for highlight, crossout and underline tools when I had 1 instance and one document open. Closed it and opened another document new settings took as default.
But I did notice that if I had more than one document open, and set the default in one instance of the viewer closed it and then closed the instance where the changes were not yet made. That the default settings and styles reverted to the settings in the last instance of the program closedn
Please let me know if you can open 1 document, change annotation style, say highlight colour, highlight some text, right click the highlight and click set as default style; close the document and reopen the viewer and see if the default highlight colour stayed changed.
Best, Chris

Re: Can’t save modified editing tool properties
Chris,
I was aware of the possible interference between multiple instances and had always try to change the setting with only one document on.
Where are these info stored? In a local .ini like file, or in registry? May I changing them by editing these settings?

Re: Can’t save modified editing tool properties
Hi bob_sun,
I believe they are stored in the registry, but am not sure of which keys or data formats exist there.
You can also set the default settings you want in an instance of the Viewer and use Edit->Export all settings to data file.
Then follow the instructions in this Knowledgebase article to so your custom settings are loaded into the Viewer on Startup.
Though the title is for a specific usage, I believe it will work for your situation as well.
