Instant open from web link
PDF X-change viewer always used to open right up when I clicked on a web link. All of a sudden now it opens a save dialog box immediately.
I have searched all the settings I can find and can't get back to the immediate open behavior.
Thank you.

Hi Asker,
Thanks for your post. Here are two knowledge base articles that should resolve your challenge.
One for Firefox :
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... la-Firefox
One for IE :
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... t-Explorer
These articles will not only help you set your default browser but will also have it open the PDF directly in the browser of your choice.
Regards,
Jamie.

Thanks for your reply.
I have done all that previously and it is still not working.
I have unchecked the 'Display PDF in Browser' box, applied the setting and rechecked the 'Display PDF in Browser' box. I have closed the browser and PDF X-Change and even restarted the computer. No help.

Hello Asker,
Please also have a look at this KB article:
I have a problem with opening pdf files directly inside a tab in Firefox. They open in the stand alone Viewer.
Which is a more recent one and I believe that the advise given there will help you resolve your problems.
Best,
Stefan

Thanks for your assistance.
Nope. Still get the save dialog box. I would be happy with getting the stand-alone app. but that doesn't work either. And, of course, I worked with the settings and restarted everything.
This was working fine until a couple days ago and I've used it for a while now.
Thanks.

The download dialogue box opens if the site sends the wrong MIME type to your browser. That is, the site doesn't tell the browser that the linked content is a PDF file.

Hi asker,
can you test different URLs as Bhikkhu has suggested? This link for example should open fine in our plugin in both Mozilla/Chrome/Opera and IE. https://www.pdf-xchange.com/fckfile ... hartEU.pdf
If that works then perhaps you can send a URL that doesn't work and we can take a look at the mime types.

Yes, I have tested a number of different URLs including the above. All PDF URLs do the same thing opening the save dialog box.
Everything seems to work fine in Internet Explorer browser but not in Firefox.

Hi Asker,
Have you gone into the Firefox Tools->Options->Applications?; as there is a setting that should say PDF-XChange Viewer Document to the left and on the right is a drop down that should be set to Use PDF-XChange Viewer(In Firefox), it may be set to Save File, Always ask.
Best,
Chris

Hello Asker,
Have you tried to reinstall both FF and Our Viewer?
Also do you recall any update to e.g. FireFox at the time when the problems started?
Best,
Stefan

Re: Instant open from web link
I have now tried reinstalling Firefox and PDF X-Change viewer. Strangely no help.
I am using Firefox version 7.0.1. I have since quit allowing Firefox to update itself. Perhaps I need to revert to an older version for this to work.

Re: Instant open from web link
Hello asker,
That's strange indeed, as we haven't heard of the same problem from another user so I'd say that this is most likely something specific to your machine.
Did you do restarts after the uninstall, and after the consecutive reinstallation? Please do try with restarting and check if that helps. Also when installing the second time - make sure FF is installed before our Viewer, and that it is also not running while the Viewer is installing.
If you are still unable to make it work after restarting and following the correct install sequence - do let us know and I will ask one of our devs to take a look at this.
Best,
Stefan

Hi asker,
while we wait to hear what the devs have to say can you tell me what is reported in FF for PDF plugins when you type about:plugins into the FF address bar? Do you have Adobe Reader listed? If so can you go to Firefox --> Tools --> Add-ons --> Pluggins and disable it then let us know if that helped?

Re: Instant open from web link
I tried all that and in the process may have found the problem. In Tools>Options>Applications there are three Adobe options. After changing all three it is working like it was.
Still cannot get it to open in browser though and have tried resetting all that again. It would be nice but I am used to it opening the whole program and can live with it no problem.
I praise PDF-Xchange Viewer to all who will listen.

Hi Asker,
That is odd that it will not open in the browser, but if you are ok with that, we will let it go for now. If we come across a similar situation and find a solution for it, we will get back to you. Likewise, if you eventually sort it out, please post it!
Regards,
Jamie
