I am an ardent admirer of PDF XChange Viewer (licensed ofcourse). I have used it a few years now.
My friend wants to use this product too. But he has a problem. He is not the administrator on his computer and hence will have to use the Portable Version of PDF XChange Viewer.
The question is, once he purchases the product, uses it from his USB or from his hard disk and enters the Registration key, will it have anything to do with the Windows Registry? If it has, and he is unable to register the product, then he will get those ghastly labels on the corners of the pages.
So, before this poor bloke shells out his hard-earned money, can you please ensure me that he will get full functionality of a paid version of PDF XChange Viewer Portable, even though he is not the administrator on his computer and the Windows Registry is locked.
That'll be great.
Thanks in advance.

Re: PDF XChange Viewer Portable and Windows Registry
Hi Bazza...
The license details in the portable version can be stored on an external file on a stick drive/USB drive etc - so as long as the portable version is installed on a device that can be written to then the license info can be saved and still no registry entries are made - Hope that helps and thanks for the kind words

If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Re: PDF XChange Viewer Portable and Windows Registry
Will I be able to set the Portable Version as the default PDF Reader (as I do with the installed version)?

Re: PDF XChange Viewer Portable and Windows Registry
Hello BazzaBoy,
For an application to be portable -it should not make any registry modifications on the host machine, and file associations is exactly such a thing. So our Portable Viewer will not do this on it's own, but you should be able to hold down the Shift key, and right click a PDF file, and choose "Open With..." from the context menu and then place a tick in front of "Always use this application for this kind of file" and this should make the necessary changes in windows. But please note that if you carry the Portable Viewer on e.g. a memory stick - and the stick is not present on the PC, or even not assigned the same drive letter - you will have problems when you try to open PDF files.
Best,
Stefan
