Portable Fillable PDF File Generation

Post by david james »

Just wondering when this feature may become available. I know from perusing this forum that this feature has been touted since 2009 as an upcoming native PDF Xchange Pro version feature. This feature would definitely round out the usefulness of PDF XChange, making it an even more versatile PDF utility. Many of the PDF forms that I create require user interactivity. I don't user MS Office 2003. It's too ancient.

I know that I can create fillable text fields that can be filled in with Acrobat, for instance, but the text fields are not fixed. The user can move them around. That gets messy. I know that I can lock the text field to prevent the text field from being moved on the pdf form, but that also prevents the user from entering data into the text field. If the txt field could be locked into place on the form in such a way that the users filling out the text fields could not move the text fields, that would be appreciated. Is there a way in PDF XChange Viewer Pro to lock down fillable text fields?

Hello David,

I am afraid that there isn't a way to lock a text field - and still leave it fillable.
As for the proper Form creation tool - yes it is in our to-do list, and we will be working on it once ver3 of our Viewer is released (end of May this year).

Best,
Stefan

Will this Form Creation tool be a separately purchased app utility, or will it be an added feature to PDF Tools and/or X-Change Viewer Pro?

Hello everyone,

I am test driving PDF-XChange and am trying to work with forms exactly as David James was back in 2012. Now it's 2014 and I am wondering if there are any improvements to the forms (locking their position and still being able to fill them).

Sincerely,

Jim Schaffer

Hello Jim,

Welcome to our forums. Indeed we are much closer to releasing a forms creation tool. It will be part of the PDF XChange Editor, but we are stil a few months away from this. This tool will be able to create actual fillable PDF forms that will also work in other PDF Viewing products.

However the ability to modify existing forms to some degree should be available in build 311 if all goes to plan.

Regards,
Stefan

My Pleasure jlkjim!

We released build 311 yesterday - but that was just a bugs fixing build - and not a new features one, so forms manipulation is still not here. Thanks for your patience while we work on implementing it!

Regards,
Stefan
