I've installed the PDF XChange Viewer on a Win7 Home Premium x64 machine.
Everything works fine as an administrator, but I've got a group policy in place and I'm having issues with a restricted user:
Basically, the user can only write to his own profile (NOT to C:\Program Files and such).
He can only execute files in C:\Program Files and the like, NOT in his own profile.
It looks like the Firefox plugin is being loaded (I'm not asked if I want to download a PDF document), but then the browser window just stays blank.
Process Monitor wasn't any help either.
Can you please tell me if the Firefox plugin needs write access to any system/program files?
Or is it trying to execute something in the user's profile?
Thank you!
Firefox plugin doesn't work with restricted permissions

Re: Firefox plugin doesn't work with restricted permissions
Hello ChocolateFactory,
Our plug-in is usually stored in the FireFox folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
and he will need read access to this.
He will also need write access to the folder where FireFox stores it's temporary files
The default should be:
C:\Users\<<USER NAME>>\AppData\Local\Temp
Best,
Stefan

Re: Firefox plugin doesn't work with restricted permissions
Hi Stefan,
That should be permitted.
(As long as the plugin doesn't try to execute code from the user's profile.)
How could I debug this?
Thanks!

Re: Firefox plugin doesn't work with restricted permissions
Thanks.
Btw, other plugins like the Flash plugin run fine with the restricted permissions.

Hello ChocolateFactory,
After discussing this with one of my colleagues he said he is unable to reproduce the problem so could you please describe what you are doing step-by-step so that we can try to reproduce the process and the error.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Firefox plugin doesn't work with restricted permissions
Hi,
Thank you for looking into this.
Try installing NT_6_SAFER.INF (right-click -> install) on a Win 7 Home Premium system:
http://home.arcor.de/skanthak/safer.html#safer
http://home.arcor.de/skanthak/download/NT6_SAFER.INF
Possibly also import this file, but I don't think it's relevant for the problem:
http://home.arcor.de/skanthak/download/IE_SAFER.REG
Restart the computer, log on as a restricted user (important) and try with the latest Firefox version.
Thank you!

Re: Firefox plugin doesn't work with restricted permissions
Thanks ChocolateFactory,
After further investigation on this case, we believe that there are some Group Policy restrictions that are denying launching applications from withing applications (and Firefox needs to launch our Viewer AX component, and this component needs access to PDFXCview.exe and PDFXCviewAx.dll files).
So there is nothing we can do at our end and you will need to check if you can change the group policies at your end.
Best,
Stefan
