Feature Request - Option to Make Wheel Zoom Default

Post by James Allen »

Currently the mouse wheel scrolls by default and [Ctrl]+wheel zooms. An option to reverse that (zoom by default and [Ctrl] to scroll) would make this program even better.

Please let me know if it is already there. I have searched for it and been unsuccessful though.

Hello James,

It's not currently possible to reverse the mouse wheel for thsoe two particular commands, but we've done it this way as for most documents you need a lot more scrolling than zooming. Actually you usually zoom a given file just once - and then spend significantly more time reading it so scrolling should be the easier of the two commands to access.

Alternatively instead of reaching for the Ctrl key you can try to click your wheel button - this should switch the wheel to zooming in/out.

Best,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

Thank you for your time and insight. I concur with the design choice to make scrolling easier by default. No doubt that is best for the majority of users, who are probably viewing standard text documents and such for the most part. And I completely agree with your assessment of the role of each function, for such documents.

But for some users zooming is needed far more than scrolling - ones such as architects and engineers who are predominantly viewing technical drawings, for example. These drawings are typically 8 times the size of standard pages and in landscape orientation. When viewing a document in which each sheet is about the size of 4 standard pages wide and 2 tall, you might imagine how zooming could overtake scrolling in usefulness. So, a toggle to allow a user to switch their default would be quite welcome.

Some samples of such drawings can currently be viewed under "drawings" in the tree view list here:

Clicking my mouse wheel activates an auto-scroll feature and does not seem to have any effect on zooming. Again, thank you, Stefan.

Hi James,

Yes I thought of exactly such a scenario - with lots of architectural documents where zooming might be more wanted, but still - there is no way currently for you to reverse that.

As for the wheel click - this seems to be controllable in the mouse drivers, and I've set that to "zoom" instead of AutoScroll (check the attached screenshot).

Best,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Thank you for the confirmation. So please consider this a feature request.

I seem to have no zoom option for the wheel click, even with SetPoint installed (screenshot attached). Must need a new mouse too.

Thank you,

James

Hi James,

I've added it to the 'Wish List'.
