IE Plugin via OLE retaking focus problem

Post by Wings Software »

Hi,

I'm having following problem:
In my application I show file attachments in an IE OLE object in order to have automatic viewers for different file formats. This works fine when Acrobat Viewer is used as IE plugin for PDF, but not when PDF XChange Viewer is used. The problem is that while a window with the viewer is open, it regains focus when for example an open dialog is shown. The effect is that the open dialog is displayed behind my main application screen and that focus is - again - on the PDF Viewer window instead.

Is this a known issue?

TIA,

Jan

To clarify and allow us to support you Jan - are you using the end user version of our Viewer - or the developer's toolkit ?

Thanks

It's the end-user version.

Sorry to say Jan - in this case you are using the Viewer in a way neither intended or allowed - we specifically exclude the interaction by any 3rd party application with the Viewer or its API (I believe your not doing the latter anyway) in the licensing and if you want to use our Viewer via a third party app in any way - you must use the SDK.

When you install PDF XChange, it automatically registers itself as a IE plugin. So automatically, it is also a plugin via IE OLE.

Maybe it's against your licensing policy, but I cannot prevent my customers from installing PDF XChange for viewing PDF files instead of Acrobat Reader. When they do so, they encounter the problem. Are you saying that my 'solution' to my customers should read: "install Acrobat Reader instead"?

Hi Jan,

If you are saying that this problem occurs - in everyday use when using IE - then we would be happy to have a look - if you are on the hand saying its happening during the listing provided by your own application 'shelling' our to our Viewer, then this is behaviour we dont support.

If you can clarify which it is - we can go from there ...

It's the latter, so you don't support it. No problem, I'll tell my users to stay away from PDF XChange.

Thanks,

That's a given Jan,

We are not in the business of supporting other software company's to generate revenue on the back of our FREE products - without deriving some benefit ourselves - incredibly selfish I know - but this is a business and not an open source foundation for the benefit of 3rd party software companies.

We provide a developers toolkit for the types of environment it would appear you are supplying to and in the event another software publisher is utilizing our tools and technology to benefit financially - strange as it may seem, we like to think our hard work and endeavours should see some benefit too.
