DEMO Version is displayed

Hi,

we have installed PDFXChange Pro 4.0.195 (company licensed).
In our SAP System we have a transaction that displays a pdf embedded in SAP Window.
The file is displayed but with a watermark
"DEMO Version http://www.docu-track.com Tracker Software"

I attached a screenshot of it (company data is removed).
What could be the problem that it displayes the demo version watermark?

Hello Alor,

Most likely the Viewer instance that SAP launches is not correctly registered - and this is separate than the stand alone Viewer you have installed - so the license you have passed at the install of the stand alone Viewer will not help.

Please check your SAP licensing and try to contact them for help.

Also to attach screenshots here you need to archive them first, as image files are not allowed for direct attachment.

Sorry, I don't understand what do you mean.
When I have AdobeReader installed the pdf is displayed embedded without any watermark.
When PDFXChange is installed, the watermark will be displayed.
Does SAP have a special licensing for PDFXChange?

Hello Alor,

Yes we do have a special license agreement with SAP, and they are providing a copy of our Viewer, as built in helper application to allow you to preview PDF documents inside their environment. I suspect the license they have interferes with the newer version of the Viewer you are installing separately - so please do get in touch with them, and ask them to contact us so that we together can resolve this issue.

After some additional tests I found out something new:
When I run SAP (7.2, 32Bit) on Windows 7 x86 with PDFXChange Pro 32bit --> works without watermark.
running SAP (7.2, 32Bit) on Windows 7 x64 with PDFXchange Pro 64bit --> watermark is displayed.
I can't install 32bit PDFXChange on x64 OS to limit the error source.
Any ideas?

How does your SAP system display PDF files? DOes it embed Internet Explorer and open the PDF document inside the browser?

A local installed SAPGui is used in this case.
But the GUI creates a COM object from the internet explorer addon (I see in procmon)
When "display pdf in browser" is not set, I get a file dialog and the pdf opens external without problems (and without watermark).

Could you please provide some additional info which will help us in the investigation as well?

We would like you to:
1. Run your SAP app. with our viewer embedded and display any pdf in it (with demo label).
2. Unpack and run the Microsoft Spy++ application from the attached archive (or you may use any other utility capable of displaying the windows hierarchy).
3. Find the main window of our embedded pdf-viewer ActiveX (the window with "DSUI:PDFXCViewer.Active" classname) and send us a screenshot of the position of it in windows hierarchy.

It is very strange case...
It looks like our main window isn't embedded into your SAP-GUI but works in ActiveX mode - this is an abnormal situation...
I want to clarify something - on the your screenshot there is a window(DSUI:PDFXCViewer.Active) that displays a pdf with diagonal demo-label and THIS window looks like it's embedded in the SAP-GUI. Is it?? When you resize the SAP-window with our "embedded" window, is our window resized/moved also?

What is IE on your Win7 x64 exactly?
Please look to taskman (or procmon) and find the PDFXCview.exe process (close other standalone/embedded our pdf-viewers before, to be clear). What is process, 32-bit or 64-bit?
Can you send us the screenshot of our main window position in Spy++ but on the Win7.x86 please? We can then compare the position of our main window in the two cases...

Sorry for late answer,

yes it is very strange. After I get the permissions to check this in our SAP by myself I've found something new.
The problem is sporadic and have nothing to do with 32 or 64bit. ( I've got wrong information from our users)

As you wrote the window/process is separted from SAP.
It is displayed in complete full screen and not in a window which can be resized.
Additionally I have no menu bar and have to close it via taskmgr.

I can reproduce the error when I open two instances of the SAP window before (!!no pdf is opened), calling the pdf (pdf is called one time and no opened instances before!). Then I get the error.
When I have only one instance it is located below the sap window as embedded.
(Using Adobe Reader X it works in both cases embedded.)

We still cannot reproduce this strange bug in all our tests.

But we can investigate it remotely by TeamViewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx) utility.
If you are happy to use it and let us investigate the issue at your end?

Hi, all.

The reason of problem is found and it is that some client applications could end up with a way too long windows chain.
Our control must be embedded in this chain, on the last window-container in it.
BUT together with the child windows of our ActiveX the resulting window chain exceeds the global OS limit.

This below registry key could be used to increase the limit:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"USERNestedWindowLimit"=dword:00000064

For Developers: the better solution would be to rearrange the window layout of your application to shorten the number of parents of the ActiveX container window.
We also work in this direction (for the next version of PDF-Viewer).

My Question is:
Opening a PDF File from a SAP System requires a licence / does not work with the free version?


I tried it with the free version and ended up with the DEMO watermark printed on.
If it requires a licence, it's ok - if not, i think there is another problem.
I tried the registry key you wrote, made no difference.

We will need a bit more details on what exactly you are doing - as if you are creating a PDF file - then yes - you will certainly need a license for our printing drivers, but if you are just trying to display an already existing file - this should not be an issue.

Please also provide a few screenshots of what you see on your screen so that we can getter understand the problem. (All images must be inside an archive or the forum will remove them).

creating an pdf and sending it to a network path

no tracker software yet used, and no watermark is on the file.

opening the file on a computer with adobe reader
--> no watermark on screen or printed on paper
opening the file on a computer with pdf Xchnage Viewer without licence
--> watermark on screen and printed on paper

i switched registry back to 0x00002710 (10000)
not worse, nor better...
