PDF-Xhange Viewer in WebBrowser control

Post by graff_fup »

Hi

I'm using a 64-bit application with an embedded Internet Explorer web browser (thru Microsofts .NET control System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser). When displaying PDFs with PDF-Xchange embedded in that browser, the PDF-Xchange instance does not correctly resize with the browser control. It assumes the size of the control at PDF load time, but does not resize after that, rather leaves the remaining screen realestate undrawn (unfortunately I can't attach a screenshot since both png, jpg and gif extensions are not allowed in attachments).

Is this a known problem, or something which could be fixed somehow?

Kind regards
Thomas

Hello Thomas,

If you include those images in an archive - you will be able to attach the archive.

As for the particular problem - It's not something that I've seen - but will now discuss it with my colleagues and we will post here as soon as we have any further advise!

Best,
Stefan

Hi Stefan

Thanks for your suggestion - I've added the zipped screenshot in my original post above.

I've in the meantime tried the program in a 32 bit environment, making the web browser control also run 32 bit. And here I see the same behavior. If using another 32 bit PDF viewer in the 32 bit environment it works as expected, but in a 64 bit environment your PDF reader is the only viable option.

Kind regards
Thomas

Hi Vasyl

I do not have your SDK installed. I've just installed the PDF-XChange reader on the 64 bit Windows PC and is using it thru an embedded WebBrowser (Microsofts .NET control System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser control).

Kind regards

Hi Thomas,

Could you please make sure that you do have build 201 of our Viewer installed - and if you do - can we see the application you are writing (or a stripped down version of it) that reproduces the problem?

Best,
Stefan

Hi Stefan

This is becoming really spooky. Today I've created a small test application with an extract of the WebBrowser control to be able to show the problem in a simple application setup. However, when testing the extract it all worked as it should - resizing of window and control had PDF-Xchange happily redraw its display on all occasions. Baffled as I were, I returned to the original application which I hadn't run for a little longer than the last week, and found that PDF-Xchange was happily displaying PDFs and resizing while embedded in the WebBrowser control.

The only things which came to mind as possible cures to the problem were:
- Application was moved to .NET Framework 4 from version 3.5
- Application was "downscaled" to run in 32 bit scope while testing for this forum, and was now upscaled again to 64 bit.
- PDF-Xchange had been uninstalled since last test and was reinstalled today to take up testing again.
- Windows updates in the last two weeks

In trying to identify the cure I've tried moving the application back to .NET Framework 3.5, but this does not reintroduce the problem.
I've then tried downscaling to 32 bit app without any effect. Upscaling to 64 bit again also does not change anything.
PDF-Xchange has been installed and uninstalled a number of times previously while both evaluating the program and while testing for this forum. So why a new reinstall should've changed anything is beyond me.
If any Windows updates has affected the problem is an open question, but it should be quite strange that it fixes it just while I'm testing.

So, in conclusion, I'm still baffled as to what made it suddenly work, but I'm quite happy that it does :)

I thank you for your efforts and responsive support, and can only regret that I'm unable to identify what made it start to work so we could all become a little wiser on the problem.

Kind regards
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the update and really happy to hear it started working.
I suspect that you had an older build of our Viewer before, and uninstalling and reinstalling actually did update our Viewer to the current latest build - and for me this looks like the most probable candidate (as .NET 3.5 and 32/64 bit versions had no effect).

But as they say - all is well that ends well!

So have an easy time finalizing your application and
Best Regards,
Stefan
