Ligatures and Clipboard

Post by spicedreams »

Hi, I recently converted to PDF-XChange and one of the really nice features I found is that the search seems to cope with authors' use of typographical ligatures such as a single character replacing fi. I can search for a word by typing in two characters fi and PDF-XChange will find words containing either the two characters or the single-character ligature equivalent.

However PDF-XChange still seems to copy the ligature characters to the clipboard.

It would be more satisfactory for me at least to have the ligature expanded when the text is put to the clipboard. The code to expand the ligature is clearly there in the search module- any chace it can be applied also in the clipboard copy module too?

Thanks

Graham

Hello Graham,

We are currently very busy with finalising the initial build of our new Viewer:
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... hp?t=10100

So I've added this in a list of feature requests that would be reviewed after v3 is released, and if this one is approved we will create the necessary ticket and update this topic.

Best,
Stefan

Indeed. I copy large amounts of texts from pdf’s files and get always strange characters instead of the letter combination “fi”. Could you please solve this, because I love the viewer and would hate to use something else.

Hi Ravista,

any chance you could provide a small sample document (please ZIP any files uploaded or they will be removed)

Many thanks

Sorry for the double reaction. See in this sample file the word "Office". If I select it and copy it to the clipboard I get "Offi ce" or "O? ce" on the clipboard.

You are cool. You don't know how much time and trouble you will save me. I need many quotes as reference for research and now I have to edit them myself by hand, to have them correct.
Thank you very much.

also - for now, a quick and 'dirty' solution - OCR the doc and you will end up with the expected text if you use the replace option in OCR - not preserve.

And in new upcoming build use the new option "Expand original ligatures" in [Preferences/PageDisplay] tab...
