Hi Folks,
First time on here, just getting to grips with my new software!
I have created a fillable form, with a link to another document on a network share. This is an internal work document which I need to send out to site via email periodically (outlook exchange)
When I save the PDF and re-open it, the link works, pointing to our F drive location.
However, if I email it to someone, the link info is replaced with a temporary Internet directory instead, is there any way of locking this out so it stays the link I originally created, even after it is emailed to someone?
Many thanks
Paul

Re: Open document link not working after form emailed out
Hi kalidor,
welcome to the forums.
One thing I'm not clear on here is what you used to create the link and what kind of link was specified. Obviously when your user(s) receives the PDF that file linked to must be in the same location. Is this what you mean by internal - you are all on the same network and thus have the same network resources mapped?
Perhaps you can supply (attach in a zip archive to your post or is it's sensitive and you'd prefer not to have it public email it to support@pdf-xchange.com) the PDF in question and we can take a look?
regards

Re: Open document link not working after form emailed out
Hi Paul,
Sorry that wasn't clear, yes, everyone who will receive this document is on the same network, we all have access to the shared directory
The link when i created it was using the rectangle link tool, open another document.
It's supposed to say F:\Controlled Documents\Eng\Drawings\VAM15070.pdf or something like that. Once I send it via email it changes to
C:\Users\Blah\Temp internet files\outlook\Controlled Documents\Eng and so on. I will have to wait till monday to get a copy of the file for you as I am off work now, but that is the issue.
Thanks for the swift reply.

Thanks for that kalidor,
Can you test saving the file to the user's documents folder? I'd like to see the PDF. I'll wait until Monday.

Yes, should have mentioned that too, if I manually place the pdf in their documents folder it works fine, it's only when it is emailed that the problem occurs

Thanks for that.
Are they opening the PDF through Outlook directly? What happens if they save it to their documents folder? Is it then like you placing it there? I think we are nailing this down to only happening when the PDF is a temp file in Outlook and not on your file system.
Would that be a fair assessment?

Hi There,
Sorry for the late reply, yes, if I send to myself and open from outlook it does this, if i save it to my hard drive then use the link it works fine. is there any way to "lock" the link so that it always works or is this a windows problem?

Hello kalidor,
I believe the issue is that the links created are relative. Please check this topic where we've discussed how one could create absolute links:
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... 35&t=10131
And then when creating your links just make sure that the two files (the source and the target) are in separate locations -and the links creates should then be the absolute ones you've entered.
Best,
Stefan
