Wanted: Custom Toolbar button to open frequently used file

Post by RogerFeeley »

I have a few files that I use all the time. I would very much like to have a way around clicking file/recent/ and selecting the pinned documents. How about giving me a toobar button that is "open xxxx" where xxxx is my file.

Hi Roger,

thanks for the suggestion. We do have to carefully balance the needs of the many against the needs of the few and I think for most users pinned items in the recents list is more than adequate. I don't think we will be adding a button for specific documents however.

Thanks for the input and for being a loyal PDF-XChange user!

Your point is well taken and I agree. Actually, what I thought could be generically useful would be support for shortcuts. In my case, I would be launching PDF_Xchange Viewer with a file name. If I could do that and have my choice of icons on the toolbar, it could be useful to many people. Then I can have a mini-desktop on my viewer.

Now, you might ask why not just use shortcuts on my desktop. I would only want those shortcuts while I am using the viewer.

But shortcuts could be useful for other things too. I don't pretend to know what things. When you create a simple tool like that, people will figure it out. Build it and they will come.

Hi Roger,

thanks for the additional suggestions. We are planning in V3 to add support for document collections for quick access to sets of documents that you use frequently. I think this may actually come close to what you are suggesting.

Lets see what that looks like when V3 is released in September and take the conversation from there perhaps?

A speed dial kind of functionality as seen in some web browsers might be useful in that regard. Open PDF XChange Viewer empty and get a dial of the mostly opened/accessed PDF files with a thumbnail preview.

I like that too.

At the end of the day, I can add to the wish list but it will be at the development team leader's discretion as to what will actually be implemented.

Keep the ideas coming though!
