Insert Pages Default Location

Post by David Bethel »

Greetings,

The Insert Page API defaults to 'Before' on the destination location. This seems counter intuitive as most users ( that's me ) are looking to add a page 'After' the page on the screen. I can't think of a scenario where 'Before' would be all that helpful.

Can I change this default? Thanks! -David

Hi David,

while you cannot set 'After' to be the 'default' the Viewer will remember you last used setting on close. I just tested this to confirm.
  • Use Document --> Insert Pages --> After.
  • Close the Viewer to force it to save the current settings.
  • Open the Viewer again
  • Use Document --> Insert Pages --> and 'After" should be already selected.
I hope that helps.
Best regards

Thanks Paul,

Wow ! Mine wont even keep the after setting from 1 page to next much less 1 session to the next.

PDFXChange Viewer Prop 2.5 Build 195 ( April 12,2011 )

Maybe there is a preference setting I'm overlooking somewhere.

Hi again David,

keep in mind that settings are not saved until the Viewer is closed, so it is important that you close the Viewer immediately after performing the insert as 'after' for the purposes of it remembering between sessions.

Having said that, it should also keep that setting during a running session, so even without closing the Viewer, inserting after then performing another insert should also 'default' to after.

You are running an older build. Can you try updating your Viewer to the current build, try again and let us know how that goes?

Odd one David - I think a clean install would be the way to go ...

Thanks and let us know if you continue to have issues after the next update.

Afternoon Paul,

A clean install was pretty hard to accomplish. It reminded me of a Win9x kind of deal. After trying to just do an install of the latest release, it ended up that I had to do multiple uninstalls thru the windows control panel, run clean disk a couple of times, and a cold reboot.

Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit

I did get Version 2.5 Build 205 to install and to accept my serial number. And voila, the default for 'Insert Pages' is 'After' on the initial try.

Thanks for your patience and time. Regards -David

Thanks for the feedback David,

an uninstall, while not always necessary is certainly prudent. I'm not sure why you had the uninstall issues you did, but it seems all has worked out in the end.

Thanks for sticking with us!
