text selection tool objects not operating

Hello
I make a print text with pdf viewer as a printer
With Document obtained, Sometimes the text object selection tool works very well,
sometimes I can not highlight text - why? thank you

Hi Gerard,

Thanks for the post - it could be an issue with an old Build. Can I get you to check that you have the latest Build and Version of the Viewer (Version 2.5, Build 207)? To check this, go to the Help tab, Click "About" and you should see the Version and Build info.

If you don't have the latest Version/Build, then please see the following KB article on how to do that, and let us know if the problem continues:

If you do have the latest Build/Version, then it may be worth checking your security settings (File->Document Properties->Security), to see if copy/pasting/altering the document is in any way restricted.

Thanks for letting me know - the next thing I need to know is, what specifically are you 'printing' to .pdf from word? Is there anything that may be imaged based, and so requires a thorough 'OCRing?' Also, I'll need a sample document in order to test this myself; could I please get a source Document (Word file) and the resulting .pdf?

Hi Gerard,

this is because the file does not contain selectable/editable text and this appears to be because the creation tool used is converting the original content to an image and then to PDF - rather than actually converting to a text based PDF as our own tools do (such as the PDF-XChange Lite, Standard and PRO print drivers).

Therefore your options are to use a different conversion tool to create your PDF's or 'OCR' the PDF as Will sugested in his previous post our the PDF-XChange Viewer OCR option. Also if you want to highlight text etc - this can be achived by an alternate method as suggested here;

Finally please note if you open in Acrobat Reader - you will also notice the same limitations apply - this confirms independantly the above should you wish to check.

Hi Gerard,

I'm not sure if you had looked at that KB article yet. It was out of date and used transparency. There is a much better way of doing it now in the Viewer using the "Multiply" Blend Mode so I updated the article to use that instead.
