Reordering Thumbnails
Is there a way to move thumbnails up or down without using the drag & drop feature? I have in mind something akin to the feature available in PDF Tools when merging pdfs which allows the highlighted document to be moved up or down.

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
Hi Apparition,
moving thumbnails in the Viewer using drag and drop in the thumbnail pane will reorder the pages as I'm sure you are aware. I'm not entirely clear on the functionality of PDF-Tools that you are referring to, it is still a drag and drop as far as I understand it.
Perhaps you can give us a little more detail of specifically what part of PDF-Tools you mean?
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious.

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
When using the split/merge function in PDF Tools you can rearrange the order of the documents you are merging with the up or down buttons that appear if you highlight (select) one of the documents. See attached file with image showing this function.

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
Thanks for that very clear explanation Apparition, now I understand what you mean.
Certainly there is no such capability in the current Viewer and I don't believe that it will be in the new version either. We are planning on a revamp of PDF-Tools probably next year and at that time some of the functionality of Tools may make it's way into the Viewer.
I cannot promise that this will be implemented into the Viewer but I've added it to the 'Wish List'. Ultimately it will be at the discretion of the Development Team Leader to decide such things.
I hope that helps.

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
It has occurred to me, since my problem with drag & drop is my inability to determine what document is represented by any particular thumbnail, a solution could be to provide a magnified view of the underlying thumbnail as the document being dragged passes over it. Since the line does appear to indicate where the document being dragged will end up if dropped, I wonder if this could be accomplished without too much effort?

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
Hi Apparition

The document to which a particular thumbnail belongs is shown by the tab that is active and the main content window in the Viewer so I'm not sure I fully ubderstand your meaning here. Is this in the Viewer or Tools that you are referring to?my problem with drag & drop is my inability to determine what document is represented by any particular thumbnail,

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
To provide you with a visual representation of my inquiry, I have attached 3 pdfs showing a document open in PDF Xchange Viewer in different stages of dragging and dropping a thumbnail in order to reposition it. The first image shows the 5 thumbnails prior to any effort to move thumbnail No. 5. As can be seen the document in the main display is Page 1. In the second image thumbnail No. 5 has been dragged to a position where it is over thumbnail No. 3. This shows the image on thumbnail No. 5 on top and the edge of thumbnail No. 3 underneath it. Page 1 is still displayed in the main window. The third image shows thumbnail No. 5 over thumbnail No. 1. The image in the main display remains Page 1.
What I am looking for, when dragging one thumbnail over another, is the type of reaction that occurs when (using Firefox to demonstrate) the cursor being placed over an image causes that webpage to be displayed. The 3 additional pdfs demonstrate visually what I mean. The actual display would not have to be full screen, just large enough to enable one to recognize the specific contents of the thumbnail under the thumbnail being dragged up or down the list. I hope this makes everything clear.

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
If I understand correctly, you're hoping to see the page that is currently being dragged (in thumbnail view) set as the current page in the main (large) page view... is this correct?
This is not a difficult thing to implement; it'll be up to the development leads to decide if they want to incorporate it though.

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
Walter,
Sorry for the delay in responding to your post, but no; what I want is to be able to view the page that is underneath the page being dragged.
The problem I was dealing with is sorting medical records and itemized statements I had obtained which were in a state of disarray and I was attempting to arrange them sequentially by date. When you have 193 records (itemized statements and doctor's notes) separating and ordering them becomes a time consuming and tedious process. I was thinking that it would be far easier to pull it off if you could view the record underneath the page being dragged so you would know when to drop it.
If you have any alternative ideas about how to accomplish this task, I would appreciate your input. Thx.

Re: Reordering Thumbnails
Okay, I understand what you mean. I'll put in a feature request.
About the best thing I could suggest in the meantime, in terms of other possibilities, would be to increase the size of the thumbnails in the thumbnails pane. You can do this with the zoom icons in that pane (little magnifying glass icons).
