Documents Not Displaying properly after PC upgrade to WIN7

Post by gerry silvester »

PDF document's fonts do not display properly after installing PDFXChange/Viewer Pro on a new PC with Win 7/64. The U/C letters and numbers seem OK, but the L/C letters are faint in a much smaller font (approx 4 pt). In fairness, the PDF document does not display properly in Adobe either. What's happened?

No idea Gerry - we will need to see a sample please (if posted here you will need to zip the file into an archive)

Thanks

Hi Gerry,

Thank you for your post.
I downloaded your sample PDF document and opened it in Windows 7 without any problems.
My version of Windows 7 is: Windows 7 Ultimate - Service Pack 1, 64 bit.
Please send us an screenshot that shows the issue to support@pdf-xchange.com

Also, please send a screenshot of Fonts page of Document properties (open the document, use File -> Document Properties menu to open Document Properties dialog, switch to Fonts page and make its screenshot (Alt+PrintScreen) )
Thanks

As requested I've attached a document showing a screenshot of both the problem PDF document and the associated document properties. Thanks for all your help - really appreciate it. I used a word processing file to paste the screen shots, then saved it as a PDF (didn't know if all the detail is needed).

Thanks for the screenshots.
Looks like the issue is because the fonts "BookAntiqua" and "CenturyGothic" are not available/installed in your new OS.

When required fonts are missing, the Viewer tries to substitute them using existing system fonts and build-in universal fonts (e.g. Serif MM and Sans MM) and looks like it made not the best job this time.

As a workarround for now you can install any software that contains this font (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fon ... x?FMID=187).

We will try to fix this issue in the next build of our viewer/editor.

Hi Gerry,

just so you know, we have raised a Support Request Ticket for this item: RT#1716: Documents Not Displaying properly after PC upgrade to WIN7.

It's internal only, but quoting that number/title will help anyone here check the status of things should it be required.

Thanks for your research. I look forward to an update to the Tracker software. I looked at the "workaround" (installing an app containing the font) and it's too complicated and costly for me at this time. Looks like I'll have to consider some other alternative - not sure what that may be. Thanks again.

Hi Gerry,

Thank you for your post.
There is another workaround you can try and that is installing a free program that contain the fonts you need such as AbiWord and Free FLV Player.
For example, take a look at these links:
http://font.downloadatoz.com/download,3 ... ndows.html
http://font.downloadatoz.com/font,9238, ... lbook.html

We will let you know as soon as we get a fix for this issue.
Thanks.

I appreciate your links to try to download the fonts. However, I got the following warning from VIPRE (my anti-virus software). Can you verify the link is OK?

VIPRE has determined that the site
you are trying to visit contains potentially harmful or objectionable content.

To proceed to this site: In VIPRE, open
"File/Settings/Firewall" and add the URL to
"Bad Web Site Exceptions..."

Hi Gerry,

Thank you for your post.
The links provided are just an example, we cannot guarantee that they are trustworthy because they belong to a third party and we do not have any control on them or the applications they are linked to and therefore, we are not responsible for their use. As anything you download from the Internet, you will have to be careful and use them at your own risk. There are many applications out there which you can install to get the fonts you are looking for. As we said on my previous email, we will fix this issue as soon as possible and will get in touch with you to upgrade your product when a solution becomes available.
If you have any questions please feel free to come back.
Thanks.

Sincerely,
