Document Page Blank (shown ok in other reader)
Hello Everybody,
I'm hoping that someone can steer me in the right direction.
I was sent a one page PDF invoice. When I open it all I get is a blank page with a green tint around the border.
In Windows 7 when I highlight the file in Windows Explorer the icon at the bottom of the page shows data on the page, as does another third party PDF reader.
I cannot (and will not) upload the file as it contains a link into my account page (password included apparently).
I am using PDF Xchange Viewer Pro v2.5 Build 208. I'm also using default settings.
Has anybody encountered this?
Is it to do with settings in preferences?
Is it a glitch?
I'm hoping that someone can steer me in the right direction.

Re: Document Page Blank (shown ok in other reader)
Additional Info.
When I right click on the file in Windows Explorer and select Properties, under the tab 'PDF Information' the following is shown;
Title has an .indd ending.
Creator is Adobe InDesign CS6 (Macintosh),
Producer: Adobe PDF Library 10.0.1
If I open the file with xChange Viewer, Fonts shown in Document Properties is Tahoma (Embedded Subset), Type: Truetype, Encoding: WinAnsiEncoding, Object Number:16.
If I open it with Fx it Reader, Fonts shows as THYOLT+Tahoma (Embedded Subset), Type TrueType, Encoding: Ansi. This then is repeated with an entry for THYOLT+Tahoma-Bold (Embedded Subset).
Long shot but I hope it helps.

Hi kerflot,
it's hard to say without access to the file itself. Is it only this file? Is there any way you can remove thew sensitive content first?
You could always send it to support@pdf-xchange.com in a zip archive password protected and we would of course honour the confidentiality of the document.

Re: Document Page Blank (shown ok in other reader)
Thanks Paul.
I had a fiddle with it but if I get rid of the link and save file the new saved file opens in Viewer.
Unfortunately the program that I used also scrambled some of the other data.

Not unless somebody can identify the problem without me submitting the file.
I was hoping that somebody might have an inkling as to how Xchange Viewer and F*xit work or what differences there are in their algorithms that allows one program to view a particular file but not the other program.
Any idea what the green border around the blank page means?

HI kerflot,
I don't know from the information at hand if I can be of any help. I will certainly ask one of the development team if they have any idea, but to be honest I don't think they will have much to say without seeing the file - there are so many variables and possibilities...

Re: Document Page Blank (shown ok in other reader)
Just had another fiddle, tried an editor. Have more info.
Bottom of the invoice has the text DIGITAL FINGERPRINT below this is a code 2bc6a....... etc (at least 30 characters).
Below that "This invoice can be downloaded from........"
Below this is a link to a https:// site which ends with the above Fingerprint.
I changed the last character of the Fingerprint in the https link, saved the file. It now opens in Xchange Viewer.
In another experiment I left the link as it was but changed the font and saved the file. It also opens with Xchange Viewer.
It appears that there is something in the link that Viewer isn't too happy with.
I'll contact the merchant that sent me the pdf to see if they can do something at their end to deny access to anybody clicking on it. If that's possible I'll forward the file.

interesting. OK that would be great - looking forward to seeing the file.
Again - if sent via email and encrypted we would of course honour your document - there would be no repercussions of sending it that way.

Re: Document Page Blank (shown ok in other reader)
The company got back to me and assures me that my account is safe, the link just allows for downloading of the said Invoice.
I have emailed the PDF file to the support address shown above.
Thank you for your advice.

Hi kerflot,
I'm copying the email I sent so that usr's following this can see.
I have found that this PDF does in fact open in the Beta of the new V3 Viewer/Editor. This is good news because it means you will be able to use that to View this document, now in the Beta and as a mainline product when it is released in March.
Details and a download link for the Editor Beta can be found here: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/company/new ... s/view/120
I hope that helps.

Re: Document Page Blank (shown ok in other reader)
Was anybody able to locate the problem.
Will it be fixed for users of Xchange Viewer.
Just tried installing the Beta Editor.
kaspersky AV caught something, before I could see what it was I got the BSOD.
Something about a Bad_Pool_Header.

ooh - that's not good. I can assure you that there are no viruses in the beta on that link. I would simply disable Kaspersky for the install.
No, considering how close V3 Gold is, (March) I doubt that we wold repeat the work in V2.5. I'm afraid you will most likely have to wait until March.

I was thinking about those people who would have to buy V3 Gold and don't want to.Paul - Tracker Supp wrote:

I'm going through the Restore Point routine with the computer that crashed and then will give it another go.

Re: Document Page Blank (shown ok in other reader)
In your email you said "Adobe Reader complains" and the graphic of the error message that you included shows "Acrobat may not display the page correctly", did the PDF actually open and if so was it a blank page or corrupt data?
I ask because a sent a copy of the PDF to the sender whom had a look at it and reported back that he was able to open it with Adobe Reader v11 without any problems; "I just tested your PDF invoice file with Windows 8 Pro and newest Adobe Reader Version 11.0.1 with my virtual machine Parallels and it works without any kind of problem.".
I've included a copy of the screen dump that I was sent showing the file opened in Adobe Reader v11.

Re: Document Page Blank (shown ok in other reader)
Hi kerflot,
Given how close V3 is now and the fact that it works in V3 there really is no point in making changes to 2.5 for this.
I hope that helps.
It did open and looked OK after the message about an error is closed. I still get that. I'm also using Win 8 Pro and Adobe 11.0.1 The point is that there is a problem with the file, Adobe performs a work around despite notifying us of the error, V3 of the Viewer will also work, it's just the current version that doesn't.did the PDF actually open and if so was it a blank page or corrupt data?
