I am using PDV-Viewer on a Win 7 64-bit machine. PDF-viewer is set as my default viewer. PDF files in detail view show the PDF-Viewer icon, but PDF files on my desktop show the first page of the PDF file in the desktop icon. How do I get the PDF-viewer icon back for these files?
Thanks.

Hi Econdoc,
that is just a setting in Windows. Change the View level to List or details and the previews will be replaced with icons.

Re: PDF files have strange desktop icons
Thanks for the reply. The icon problem I have is with pdf files that are on my desktop. The icons appear correctly (or as expected) in Windows Explorer.
Let me make one clarification: a shortcut to a pdf file appears correctly. If the pdf file itself resides on the desktop, the icon shows the (illegible) first page.

Hello Econdoc,
These previews are generated by our Shell Extensions (a small tool that's installed along with the Viewer) - and unfortunately you can't turn off the previews for files residing on the desktop. THe only way to do that would be to unisntall the Viewer and then reinstall it - making sure to not install the Shell Extensions. But if you decide to do so - you will not be able to see any previews of any PDF file on your system, nor you would be able to search inside the contents of PDF files through Widnows Explorer's search function.
Best,
Stefan

Thanks, Stefan.
Can I put this on my wish list? There might be an option that toggles this desktop option on/off.

Hi Econdoc,
Currently there are no options for controlling the shell extensions but we might introduce such in the future. Please note that I am not making any promises here though!
Best,
Stefan
