Shrinking embedded pictures possible? Convert to bw-fax?

Post by mattad »

Sometimes I create pdfs from Word Docs or Webpages with (big) embedded pictures.

In order to shrink the size of these pdfs I would appreciate an option to shrink
the embedded pictures (without touching the remaining content).

Is this somehow possible?

Other, related question: is it possible to convert an existing pdf doc (WITH colors)
to a greyscale or (even best) black-white pdf (ready to fax)?

If yes: How can I accomplish this?

If not: Can this be included in the next release?

Thank you
Matt

Hi mattad,

in the Printer settings look to the Graphics category for options to convert images to Grayscale, Monochrome or Black and White. If you set these to one of the above you r text will also be converted so your entire document will be as selected.

Hmm, when I go to the printer settings then I cannot see a "Graphics category"
See snapshot:

(BTW: You should allow picture upload as attachment)

Ok, at the bottom I see a "greyscale" checkbox but NO monochrome nor BW option.

Furthermore do these options not offer to only compress embedded pictures.

Is there no other option to compress embedded pictures?

Hello mattad,

Paul was referring to the options for the printing driver itself as in the attached image.
If all you need is greyscale only then check the appropriate box in the Viewer's print dialogue "Print as Greyscale".

Best,

Hi mattad,

indeed should have made that clearer, I thought you were referring to shrinking the size of the files when creating the PDF using our print driver. Reading that now I guess I wasn't so clear, sorry.

Along with the options to change the images Graphics category, the driver also has a Compression category where you can set options to make the resultant PDF smaller.

Image

That can't be done in the Viewer after the PDF is made, though we are planning on adding optimization like this in future.

Regards uploading pictures, we had issues with inappropriate content being uploaded and were forced to stop that. If you put Image tags around the URL you posted it will display in your post as if it were uploaded like I've done above.

That would be great!

Could you give this plan a higher priority?
It shouldn't be difficult to implement

Thank you

Hi mattad,

indeed it is already high in priority, however getting the Editor fully up to speed it the number one priority right now. Just so you know.
